Hi,

Although Win7 is still not oficially supported, the game runs fine at my end on Win7 64 bit.

Windowed mode for HoMM3: you have to set your desktop color depth to 16-bit and then in game either press F4 or Alt + Enter.

Here's another option for windowed mode.

Install, then hit F4 during game. Verified working in Windows 7 64 bit.

Or you can just install Heroes 3 HD mod:

which fixes some things (like mono music -> stereo), adds support for larger resolutions and runs the game in 32-bit colours mode so you can play windowed without changing your desktop colour numbers.

hey, does anyone know if the HoMM3 HD patch works in chronicals? I'm playing through them all and they keel crashing.
actually I still think knowing the answer would be good, but it's not useful for me as I cannot install it. I get an file missing error. possibly because I use win7 64, not 32.

Patch doesn't work because it's not a patch, it's a replacement for the heroes exe file. Chronicles has a different exe file.

If it keeps crashing, you should check to see if you have a multi-core processor. Homm3 and chronicles crash, A LOT, on those. There's an easy fix that's been posted in these forums many many times.

Here's a good example.

HoMM1 runs via DOSBox, and as far as I'm aware the latter runs just fine in Win 8. Consequently, you should have no problem running HoMM1.
