i keep getting an error every time i try to make a random map in-game

it also works if you create a folder in the main directory called "random_maps"

Where is the "main directory"? The only 4 things that show are Documents, Tools, and 2 short cuts one for the game and one to uninstall.

The folder you installed the game to?

And if you don't know the folder, I believe the default is C:\GOG\ then look for HoMM3 folder inside.

You could also right click the shortcut, click Properties, and click Open File Location.

I just had this same error, even though I installed and ran the game as Administrator. Creating the "random_map" folder fixed it, so I'd second that suggestion, if you're still having issues.

Creating folder "random_map" in the main HOMM3 folder (C:/ GOG Games) works.

I am also having this problem, but I've tried both running it as admin and I tried making the "random_maps" folder, but neither f them are working for me, can someone help?

I'm having the same problem. I tried creating a new folder and I called it "random_maps" but it didn't work, only thing that happened then was that I couldn't even play the normal scenarios. I created the folder in homm 3 complete.

Any other suggestions please? Or dumb it down to the level of a 2-year old in case I did something wrong. I also tried running as admin.

Thank you, "Random_Maps" instead of "random_maps" did the trick for me as well.
