After dling those two just unpack them (2.91u first, then 2.92u) into the game folder.
Actually, 2.91 is not needed as indicated on the site. However, I see on the Russian part of the site there is actually a newer version. So one has to download 2.90f first and then only 2.93u, that's it:

You can always read a translated version.

2.94f is out. Now you need only this one file:

(I came across this thread in my search to fix my HOMM3 Complete crashing problem. It crashes after my first combat instance, every time.)

After trying to download 2.94 a few times, it is always empty.. nothing in the zip file to extract. So I got 2.71 instead, and it does have files.. but after using it to launch the game, the game still crashes after the first combat round. I'm using XP, on my netbook, so there are no multi-core issues.. I've read as many posts here as my search would come up with trying to find a solution but nothing so far.

I haven't been able to figure out on my own what this is:

Step Four: Using link above, download "GoG_Complete" file.

I couldn't find a link that led to a GoG_Complete file, and I don't know where to find it, or if it is something that might help me fix this.

This is my first GoG game, and I was insanely happy to find HOMM3 here.. I'll be sad if I can't get past day 2 of the game :(

Try again. I've just clicked on the above link and 7z file is completely correct. Maybe you have an outdated packer? (BTW: it's 7z file, not a zip one)

Also, download a patched MSS32.DLL file (you might want to back up the original first):

Hey there.

I've downloaded the patch + updates, unpacked it and all without a problem. But when I play the game in a >800*600 resolution, I get something like this :

Am I doing it wrong ?

Have you tried the actual gameplay? The menus, towns and all that "fits in one window" stuff would look pretty awful scaled, so they're boxed like that.

Okay, so now I feel like an idiot. The gameplay is perfect. Sorry. ._.

Kreeblah: ... I left a message for the author on the forums where he posted the release, so hopefully he'll look into it. If you don't use WoG, though, this doesn't really matter, since the patch works fine on just the base game alone.
Maybe you could left a message for the author to make this compatible with the GOG Chronicles version also.

Artki: > I don't know if perhaps I'm being a little dumb, but the website no longer looks like this (which I suppose is reasonable given that this was last edited 5 months ago as of this posting). I tried running the latest version (3.91) on that site, which actually does have a dropdown menu for the GOG release, but I can't get it to run without it asking me for the CD. Has anyone else had any problems with this, or could someone perhaps link an earlier version?

I'm running H3 on Windows 7, incidentally.
------------

I didn't have that issue and am also running it on Win7. Have you tried running it in adminstrator mode?

My version of the setup is 2.6.1. and v 3.2 of the main program. Got it at the end of January and the setup program does make a reference to the GOG version (no cd).

Also, assuming you have a multi-core processor, you'll have to patch the program with imagecfg or it'll crash all the time. The thread discussion how to patch (pretty easy) is here

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/heroes_of_might_and_magic/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_keeps_crashing_in_win7

I wound up patching both the original and the HD version of the exe file. Since I've done that I've had ZERO crashes.
Any chance you could write a detailed post about the exact steps for using this "imagecfg" file to patch Heroes 3? Some of us are not big on the ins and outs of command line stuff and what not.

EDIT: In fact there dos not seem to be any way top b ring up a CMD window in Windows 7.

> EDIT: In fact there dos not seem to be any way top b ring up a CMD window in Windows 7.

Start Menu
All Programs
Accessories
Command Prompt.
And you'll have a dos prompt.

If you get in a mess because of admin priviliges, you can copy the relevent EXE file to another directory then run IMAGECFG on it then copy that file back to the original directory.

Thank you for this. It does seem that I installed my GOG version of Heroes 3 to the default "program filesx86" location(I did not realize this was a no-no in Win 7) so I will either try your above solution or simply reinstall it to "C\Heroes III" or some such.
I'm probably an idiot, but for some reason my computer has decided that I should open the program with Dosbox. I cant seem to open the file to find it's files to extract to my HoMM 3 folder. What should I do?

Also, I dont seem to see any GOG version.

I have:
** Installed H3: Complete
** went to http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/ to get the Hi Res patch
** ran the patch's setup.exe file to configure it to accept the gog.com version of Heroes 3

After I've done all that, game runs OK but the pre-battle music that plays just before combat begins is gone ?
