Did anyone encounter this problem? HOMM3 installs and runs fine, except that I can't skip the intro movie - every time I start the game, I must endure the whole movie before I can play. I thought perhaps a firewall is blocking the game from polling keyboard, but that is not the case - I get the same behavior on a completely different computer with no firewall installed. The older versions of the game (with copy protection - that's why I bought GOG version) are able to skip intro easily.

It looks like something is preventing program from changing its registry keys. On default, it is impossible to skip intro while it runs for the first time only.
Use registry editor and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\New World Computing\Heroes of Might and Magic III\1.0
There one of keys should be "First time". Change its value to '0'.
If it doesn't work (or is already '0'), you could also change "Show intro" to '0'
EDIT: For x64 versions, the path would be [...]\Software\Wow6432Node\[...]

That was it! Thanks!
I know this problems has already been fixed, but could the problem potentially be a result of not running as administrator?

I tried running as admin and I still couldn't bypass the opening video. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to resolve this.

So how exactly do I do this? I can't seem to skip the intro and I'm not sure what your talking about, I tried looking but can't find this registry editor you speak of or a different way to skip it.

Usually it's 'Menu Start -> Run... -> and type "regedit" [no quotes]

Okay, so I typed in regedit, and I'm there now. I see a file or folder that reads "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" but don't see anything else. I click on it, and there's this thing with an ab icon and the type is REG_SZ, and under data it says "(value not set). I'm running this on Windows 7, and I just bought and downloaded the game last night, so I've got the latest version or whatnot. Where do I go from here?

More specifically, there are some other folders there under Computer (aka My Computer) but that one folder was the only one that sounded like what you were talking about.

Do you see a '+' sign next to the folder (to the left)? It should expand the folder tree.
I don't have Win7, so I'm assuming it's similar to other OS.

Hmmmm. Well I went ahead and expanded the folder (just double clicked it) and I found the software folder you were talking about but I don't see the NewWorldComputing (or any other game folder, go figure) listed to select. Just some hardware folders and stuff for the most part, and other tidbits. Tried browsing around but still can't find what I'm looking for. What operating system are you using btw?

Alright, I browsed around and finally found the folder I was looking for, apparently its called "Wow6432Node", makes no sense why its called that but it has all the game folders and stuff like that, along with HOMMIII and the other GOG games. So now where do I go from here?

You have x64 version then.
click on "1.0" folder under HOMMIII. A list of values should appear in the right window. One of them should be 'First time' Change it from 1 to 0.

Unfortunately I'm not finding a 1.0 folder under HOMMIII. All that I see are two seperate folders, one called GOGHOMM3COMPLETE and the other called GOGPACKHOMM3COMPLETE. The first one doesn't have anything with a data value set at one (and there are a bunch of options for that one). The second one has 3 options, one default, one COMPONENTSCOUNT, and the third GAME_1. There isn't one called first time in either of the two big folders but COMPONENTSCOUNT reads a value of 1. Should changing that to 0 do the trick?

Are you looking under GOG.com folder?
You should be looking under New World Computing instead.
Or just... use search (F3) to look for 'First Time'
(Make sure that 'values' box is checked while searching)

Alright, thanks, now I found it under New World Computing instead of the GOG folder. Now I'll see if it works. ~crosses fingers~
It should work alright. I'll update my post with path for x64 OS.
