I'm guessing HoMM3 doesn't work with mac, but I want to ask anyways.

I gifted it to my friend who wanted to have it for himself. But he never bothered to tell me he has a mac. So I'm pretty pissed that I just spent 10 bucks for nothing. Unless it does work, but I'm assuming not...

Actually, it works great with Wineskin: http://wineskin.doh123.com/

HoMM3 HD, a mod that allows you to use modern resolutions (http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/), also works... sort of. It only acts like a windowed app, not a full-screen app, and its performance via Wineskin leaves something to be desired, but it's playable.

HOMM3 had a native Mac version in retail.
After my post last night I went ahead and installed my copy of HOMM3 Complete using Wineskin and then tried the latest version of HOMM3 HD with it. You have to fiddle with the display options a little, but you can indeed gt full-screen HOMM3 HD with no performance problems. The latest version must have cleaned up whatever wasn't quite working.

So yes, HOMM3 works brilliantly with the Mac. Your friend should be able to enjoy it. :^)

This is news to me. The performance of Heroes 3 HD was too horrible for me to bother with before (especially with the compromiised fog of war -- they should look at fixing that).

Could you outline the settings you used and which version of WineSkin for convenience' sake?

I'm using the latest Wineskin wrapper (2.5) and currently on WS8Wine1.3.32 for the engine.

I've attached a screenshot of the Screen Options I'm using.

Fog of War still doesn't work with Heroes3HD, but since the AI cheats a bunch anyway, I don't mind leveling the playing field a bit. ;^)

GOG's version works perfectly with crossover. I've been playing it for quite a while now. Yes, the retail release had a Mac version, but it was still PPC at that time, so it's mostly useless now.

Probably won't work on newer macs since mac version of HoMM 3 was designed to run on the PowerPC architecture.
I just got HOMM 3 running using Wineskin. Seems to run fine although I had a problem with full screen. Windowed mode works just fine, though. I'm running a MacBook Pro from early 2011 with OS 10.7.3 (Lion). Wineskin Winery 2.5.5 is using the WS9Wine1.5.2 Engine.

I'm not a technical person and I'm a bit lost trying to figure out how to implement HoMM3HD. Any help would be appreciated.
