It's the oldest, most primitive in the series, has the shortest campaigns in the series, and no expansion packs, and yet it costs the same as HOMM 2, 3, and 4. Anyone thinks this should be $5.99 or less?

Ask Ubisoft.
Yup, should have been at the lower price point.
Just wait for the next time it goes on sale, I bought it on sale too. :)
I'd be complaining to Ubisoft, not GOG, bro. They're the ones who probably control the price points.
I've not played HOMM1 but have bought M&M VIII and it's the only GOG purchase (of many) that I've been disappointed with.

Just a personal opinion but I'd add that to the overpriced and overrated M&M series.

Er... what? Both Might and Magic VII and VIII are $6. Are you saying these games sohuld be free?

Having bought and played plenty of other gog games for the same price, I think they all offer much more game for my hard earned $6 (or about £3.xx if you're reading this in the UK!).

It's not the longevity or graphics of the game - it just doesn't "do it" for me. Just an opinion...

So you're saying these games should be free?

This thread is about HoMM1 and the $10 price point, and you come in here talking about a different game available at the $6 price point (the lowest)? Doesn't make sense.

And furthermore you go on to judge an entire series and its spin-offs based on your experience with a single game? I don't get it...

No - I'm not saying that. For some, the game is obviously worth it judging by plenty of positive reviews.

I felt it was relevant based on my opinion. I'll withdraw all my posts on this thread if the OP would prefer to keep focus on HOMM1

Did I? - Hmmmm, if it reads that way, then it's not an accurate reflection of what I was trying to communicate.

To reiterate: I love all the gog games that I've purchased at either $6 or $10 (or somewhere in-between based on promotions). *To me*, they've all been exceptional value for money with the exception of M&M VIII.

Hope that clears things up.
I agree with this. For $10, you could get the newer, better, games in the series such as HOMM II or HOMM III.

And HOMM III has been considered the best fantasy TBS ever made. I personally agree.

I used to think the same. Then I played the Age of Wonders games.
Yes, given that the soundtrack is a dud, the game is definitely greatly overpriced.
I too think it strange that it costs as much as the other games in the series. Then again, Heroes of Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic 2 apparently came out in the same year, didn't they?
Heroes of Might and Magic (DOS) released September 1995.
Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars (DOS/Win) released November 1996.
Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Price of Loyalty (DOS/Win) released May 1997.
Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold (Windows only) released November 1998.

I do not agree with that HoMM1 is overpriced. It was a very good game for its time IMO.

Except that HoMM 2 is clearly better.

Whether HoMM 3 is superior to HoMM is the subject of some debate, but all HoMM players I've talked to so far have been in agreement that HoMM 2 is better than HoMM 1.
