When I try to start Heroes 5 (both hammers... and fate...) I get the load picture. then that picture change resoolution and windows locks up.
any thoughts?

Try to run the game as administrator.

Are you using Windows 10? You should try installing DX9 redistributable, if you haven't done so already: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35. Be sure to check the compatibility mode as well. Try Windows 7 and Windows XP SP2 compatibility modes.

Hi! Yesterday I also had this problem, but I found a very easy fix. All you have to do is to check "Disable fullscreen optimizations" in Compatbility tab of game's exe. This fix works for Hammers of Fate and Tribes of the East as well.

I hope this will help and you'll be able to play it.

I'm late to the party, but I got myself a gaming laptop and had a problem with Heroes 5 starting, your tip got rid of the problem, thank you so much!

Does anyone know the name of the executable file or where it's located? Is it located in the bin folder? Or bina1? I am finding multiple "application" files. Not sure which one to edit settings for.
