when I launch the game I get a black screen and a box that says:

DirectDrawError(16385)

DDERR_UNSUPPORTED

File:C:\Dev\Heroes3exp2\Game\WinGraph.CPP

Line: 164



Any help would be much appreciated,

What's your graphics card?

A few google results like here suggest updating your graphics card drivers.

so tried turning off my video card and got the same message so doesn't seem to be that.

just fyi I have an evga 550ti by nvidia
