Each chapter (campaign) is its own executable, and is distributed on GOG as standalone distributions (where the latter half were a different situation back in the day).

Chronicles is a result of 3DO cracking the whip on New World Computing to keep making releases every few months to keep money flowing in, so keep that in mind while playing.

Gotcha, so essentially DLC for HOMM3 packaged separately. It does run on the Heroes 3 engine right?

Yes, and while the HD mod for HoMM3 doesn't work with them, the GLWrapper will

You can think of each one as a separate campaign in Heroes 3.
... in the same way that you can think of McDonald's as a "restaurant"
