Is it possible?
I've tries hosting a game using TPC/IP, but my friend couldn't find it using my IP adress...
There is another way, but I'm directed to GameSpy...
I've never used it before, what's it worth?
So basically, is there any way of playing H3 online?
And should I do so using gamespy?

Try setting up a virtual LAN network using Hamachi.
Just create a network, everyone log in there, run the game and try it that way.
By the way, did you both set an exception for HoMM3 in your firewall? If not, that can cause your problems. Or maybe who hosts the game should have public IP address (probably I'm wrong with the name, I don't know the english version), in that case ask your ISP.
I have no experience using Gamespy, but the Hamachi should work. I have even played it via TCP/IP, but it worked only sometimes.

If you don't want to use Hamachi, you can try GameRanger from www.gameranger.com . It's been pretty reliable for me.

I've tried both Hamachi and Gameranger...
Both work perfectly fine :D
Thank you to both of the responses
When choosing a multiplayer > network game in HoMM2, TCP/IP is grayed out and only NetBIOS is selectable. If I select it and attempt to host a game, the game suddenly shuts down.
i actually got the same question as achuckle. just bought the game for my brother (had it for weeks myself; love the site guys) and i cant get the netbios to work anyway shape or form. grateful for any help and it will be reciprocated with love and good feelings
Hi, I and a friend can't play online together, we both have the GOG version of HOMM3, we use Hamachi, we are connected (I can ping him), we both chose Hamachi as the top prority network in network preferences but we stil can't see each other in HOMM3....
any help is welcome, we can't figure out where the problem comes from.... I trying GameRanger right now.
thanx
EDIT : I can ping him but he can't ping me under hamachi... so the problem is not HOMM... but I don't understand what's wrong
We both have desactivated our firewall.
........HELP !

Hey I don't get why people say that Gameranger and/or Hamachi work just fine.

They don't!

I've been trying to make it work with my 2 friends for days with nothing but issues arising. Two players usually work fine but with 3+ players nothing works like it should.

Gameranger is not supposed to support more than H3: Armageddon's blade, and the GoG version is 'Complete' i.e. including the second expansion 'Shadow of death'. That is to say Gameranger shouldn't work with the GOG version.

Still people say it does. What's the deal? Why can't I play with my friends? *sob*
im using Hamachi can some1 play with me, hit me up im own 2 play heroes2 gold or heroes3complete, hit me up I really want 2 play online with sum1
Hi Guys,

In order to be able to play with 2 or more friends ( IE 3 or more players ), neither Hamachi or Gameranger or any of these softwares will work. I've struggled with this problem for years and finally managed to get it working using OpenVPN.

It's a bit cumbersome to install but once it's done properly it'll work 100%. Only need to disable Windows Firewall before playing and ou can play.

You'll need to configure OpenVPN so that each client can ping themselves ( tutorials available on Google, not so hard to find ).

Best of luck !

I'm having difficulties with Gameranger. How did you get it to work?

Thanks!
