I just noticed that I have only about 4 or 5 maps under skirmish mode. Is this the right thing? It seems a small number!

Yeah, afraid that's right. Was one of the common complaints about the game...not enough skirmish maps. Fortunately there are some fan made maps out there to be found, like here: http://hoae.ucoz.net/load/maps/1
