I have an old CD copy of this game that I could never get to work in Windows 7. Is there finally a workaround for it?

It sais that ti's compatible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8), so it should work.

That's the miracle that is gog.. they take old games and make them work (drm free) on modern operating systems :) Product description on gog's site says it works on Win 7, so i'm sure it'll work.
I tried the demo earlier and I use Windows 7. It didn't work. I hope GOG's version does.

It does, actually :)

This game presented almost no problems during testing. Seriously, it's one of the better coded old games we have in our catalogue :D

Then it must be on my end. The peculiar issue with the demo is that the I received no error message, not even exe stopped responding. The process was active for a few seconds then just terminated itself.

Try setting your desktop's resolution to something like 1280 X 720 or whatever corresponds to the 1280 x (number) resolution :)

The game may have issues with resolutions it doesn't support :)

I downloaded the demo and also had the same problem with it exactly as you described. I figured what the heck so bought the game anyways and installed it because I am familiar with the Magic of GOG.
My native resolution is 1600-900 and the game started up just fine ... The demo didn't work but the game from GOG does .... I have No problem with the game so far.

Sometimes GOG doesn't get it right at first for everyone, but in every case I know of, they eventually fix it (Dungeon Keeper 1 and/or 2 were beasts... everyone always had trouble with the old versions of them). Getting old software to run on new computers is an arcane and hairy business. If you're still worried, it wouldn't hurt to wait a few days for more testimonials so you can have as much confidence as reasonably possible. It's not even on a release sale, so you don't lose anything but time.
So this game supports widescreen resolutions like 1280x720 or do i get stretched images?

The US-CD version of the game required a shim to work on Windows 7; I would assume the problem with the demo is the same thing.

When it started up it went straight to my Native Resolution which is 16:9 (1600X900) and I don't see any stretching in the game. It looks pretty good and the game isn't bad either .... Better than the Inquisitor so far anyways.
I think 1280X720 is 16:9 also ... that's where I play most of the games when I have a choice of setting.

A shim? Waaaaaat?

Did the CD not fit in the drive or something?
A shim? You mean a patch?

Btw. i tried the demo too and it crashes at the start. I hope the GOG version really works for me. I'm still unsure about buying the game.

IIRC this game is W7 compatible but you need to mess around with the compatibility administrator. Google around, I'm sure there's a way to fix it somewhere!
