flanner: hi, please i need some advice. in my gog version of heretic the controls differ from original as i remember it.
what worse, the space bar for switching on and opening doors doesnt work at all, what makes game completely unplayable as i even couldnt find some key which does it instead.
so i would like to arrange that original controls but there is no such possibility in game menus. i suppose it can be done somewhere in game folder by adjustintg some .txt cooperating with dosbox?
im not much into IT :(

1) Go to
https://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/Downloads, download and extract
Chocolate Hexen.
2) Place
HEXEN.WAD and
HEXDD.WAD in the same directory as the Chocolate Hexen executable, whose name is
chocolate-hexen.exe.
3) Click on
chocolate-hexen-setup.exe to set up your controls, specifically
Configure Keyboard and
Configure Mouse, or if you use either a Gamepad or Joystick,
Configure Gamepad / Joystick. Once you are satisfied with your controls, go to
Save Parameters and Launch Hexen.
4) Open
chocolate-hexen.exe and enjoy.

How to create a Windows shortcut for Deathkings:
1) Create a windows shortcut to Chocolate Hexen. Right-click and drag the
Chocolate Hexen's executable icon, then move it anywhere in the folder. You'll get a menu where one of the options is

2) Once you have done that, right click on the shortcut and select
Properties.
3) In the new menu that appears, select the
Shortcut tab.
4) In the
Target field, type the following text after
chocolate-hexen.exe, starting with a single space
after the closing quotation mark:
-file hexdd.wad
Your target field should look similar to this (of course, wherever it was you installed Chocolate Hexen, since I don't know where it is located on your PC. "\path\to\chocolate-hexen" is just a placeholder for chocolate hexen's location on your system.):
"\path\to\chocolate-hexen" -file hexdd.wad
Make sure that hexdd.wad (Deathkings file) is in the same folder as hexen.wad (the main Hexen campaign) and chocolate-hexen.exe itself.
In future, all you will have to do is click on that Icon and you'll run Deathkings by merely double clicking. I would also recommend renaming the shortcut to Deathkings of the Dark Citadel for obvious reasons.
