Hi,

I've seen this topic on other games but no one solution fits all. My goal is to move using the keyboard and use the mouse for aiming and shooting.

Is there a way to achieve this through DOSBox configuration or inside the game?

Thanks

No. But you answer is already in this forum. See 'Mouse Look not Mouse Walk' topic.

One solution is to download a little TSR executable called novert. Copy the novert.com file into the Heretic/Hexen folder and It must be enabled editing the dosbox_heretic_single.conf file:

For example:

:game
cls
novert.com
heretic.exe
goto exit

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/utils/misc/novert

This solution is for DOOM games. It just kills vertcal input from mouse. And it's satisfactory for DOOM, since there is no vertical 'klook' there.
Heretic and Hexen both have vertical 'klook'. And solution for those games is ravmouse. Instead of just killing vertical input from the mouse this small program emulates vertical 'klook'. And you get controls similar to Quake.
Just read the corresponding topic.

Oh well. I was expecting the same solution as in Doom. Thanks for the clarification.

Well, that clarification was actually redundant since I already gave a link to the answer in my first message. Can do nothing if forum members just ignore it...

Well, occasionally it uses to happen.
Mouselook wasn’t invented yet, so it’s not a feature in the game. Use a source port like GZDoom to solve it.

Oh, yet another one who does not follow links. Keyboardlook was invented and it can be used as mouselook with a small software assistance. Also you forget one thing: GZDoom is inaccurate port suitable for advanced mods only (where it really shines). But, advising it specifically for the classic episodes you rob newcomers, who a not familiar with differences between ports, off the proper classic experience. You could have adviced Chocolate/Crispy Heretic in this case.
GZDoom is fine and in fact great for the base game. No advanced mods required. You can choose not to enable any of the modern options except for mouselook, and you won’t need to install multiple programs. Though I suspect most would like to take advantage of at least some of the features it offers.

Let”s let the individual player decide what he wants, and not pretend there is something sacred and unimprovable about these games besides your personal preferred changes. Presumably OP is an independently thinking human being who can do what he wants.

The ravmouse link on the other thread is down. Can you provide a new one?

Tried novert and it worked great. Thank you.

Link is fine and works. As I mentioned in that thread you are not supposed to click it. Just copy it as a text and paste into the address line of your browser.... Very old and known bug of the GOG's forum system.
Anyway, I re-uploaded the utility in hope that it would be useful for someone in the future. Link is there.
