Is there any way to turn off the player messages (yellow hands) feature?

I'd much rather explore the game myself and discover secrets than just have everything, literally, handed to me.

Other not playing offline, no I'm afraid.
I rarely see messages though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The multiplayer seems to be pretty dead.
