I had to buy this although I already own the original discs.

Sadly GOGs setup is (once again) mediocre at best. One of Harvesters technical shortcomings were the low resolution cutscenes, so your mointor had to change resolution every time a cutscene was being played. Nowadays this shouldn't be propbelm any more thanks to DosBox. Sadly, this DosBox Setup still does not manage to QUICKLY change between SVGA game scenes and cutscenes.

So please, try the following DosBox setup and change yours. At least, see the difference. Talk to "your" brother right after the beginning and choose the TV topic. You'll see a short cutscene of some bizarre western. Notice the strange delay in GOGs version and compare it to "my" version:

I removed the three iso files. You just have to put them into the ISO folder.

And by the way: What happend to your icon designer. This newly designed icon looks really bad. Why not using the great original artwork like in almost every other game?

Send this info to Support, also, or PM JudasIscariot.

Writing to Support is the best idea as this is kind of beyond me :)
Does this fixed version have any issues with the cutscenes?

I had my copy set up with DOSBox about 9 months back, and for the most part, the cutscenes did work as intended but there were a few that I had trouble with, primarily the 'good' ending. Every time I chose that option, it would show the first few frames of the video and then immediately skip to the credits.

Something else I wanted to add: with GOG's setup, I like how it explicitly lets you know how to 'swap discs' when it gets to be that time with the on-screen instructions. I thought that this would've been a bigger hurdle for GOG to jump over, as most releases I've seen, they force the game to think that everything is on one drive.

I'm actually having a problem like that with the GOG version. The FMV early on when you talk to your brother just instantly skips through.

How do I get your version to work? I copied the 4 harvest.dat files from the GOG release which i'm assuming are they ISOs but it dosn't work. I tried changed the extension to ISO but didn't work either.

Harvester only has three discs. I'm not at home right now but you have to use the three right dat files and rename them to iso. Look at their filesize. One should be siginificantly smaller...

Ah, ok. Will i have to rename them too?
I'm having troubles with the cut-scenes: some of them just get skipped.
A few time playing in windowed mode does help, other times is pointless.
I would like to try your configuration but I don't understand how to use it.
I will post instructions tomorrow.
Copy HARVEST.DAT, HARVEST3.DAT and HARVEST4.DAT from your GOG gamefolder into the "ISO" folder of my uploaded version.

Then rename

HARVEST.DAT --> HarvesterCD1.iso
HARVEST2.DAT --> HarvesterCD2.iso
HARVEST3.DAT --> HarvesterCD3.iso

and play the game by double-clicking dosbox.exe :)

Thanks, I'll try this this weekend and let you know if it worked!
If it does, I'll pester the support to make them change it as well :D

Tried that and it worked! GOG should definitely make the changes to their setup.
According to their mail they are looking into the matter. But mailing them yourself could be usefull ;)

Not to hijack your post, but I also use custom configurations for most of my old games. I noticed in your conf file you have pixel shader set to none. I would suggest changing that to 2xSaL.fx because it provides a way to smooth out the pixelation on screen.

You can go here to view the different pixel shader effects: http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza/gallery/

Also, here's a shot of Harvester without the pixel shader:

And here's a shot of Harvester with pixel shader enabled:
