I've never played tabletop games, nor had any inclination towards trying one. The trailer and screenshots look like this might be a gateway drug to card games.

/looking for reviews before I say any more
Watch Totalbiscuit's WTF is. That will give you a good idea of the mechanics and game play.

I'd recommend it if you play lots of different games, are interested in game design and have money burning a hole in your pocket.
I wouldn't recommend if you don't like card games or board games or don't like RPGs or want plenty of depth.

My opinion is it's too much like a board game and quickly will become repetitive, it's much better to play it in short bursts than something to keep you satisfied in the long run. The developers could have done much more with it, so I'll be looking forward to any sequels or expansions.

Verdict - 3/5 Good game, with interesting mechanics and presentation. Needs more dynamic features to bring more variety to the repetitive board game structure.
I watched this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6lyqODsP_0&list=PLX4A9MN2aCHoMbM9hFGZWsGEvsaGEx_mi&index=1
It is early access, but shows the gameplay very well.

If I should describe it in short terms:
Arcade-Action-Card Game

It feels cool and the animations/sounds are very well done.

I only played the first two 'dungeons' on the release version and it feels very smooth. The first deck/dungeon is more like a tutorial.

Games:
Card decks of different size (bigger the further you are in the game)
Cards can be anything, from a helpful maiden to undead or bandits ambush
Cards are mixed and a subset placed on the table for the player to master (draw)
Cards are resolved by chance (success/failure) or with action combat.
In the end you defeat the boss-card.

Win:
Every won game gives your hero some bonus, but also to the enemies in the next game.
Some beneficial cards you pick up during a game can be carried over to the next.
Equipment cannot be carried over to the next game, but your starter equipment will improve after a few won games.

Cards:
You get additional cards for equipment and enemies for each won game.
With these you can choose what cards should be in the deck for the next game. It is like customizing your own deck. You don't like mages? Don't add the mages tower cards, but you will also not get the loot.

James recommends this game as well!

I was already leaning toward buying this, but watching TB's WTF is... sealed it for me. Picked it up later that evening. Great game so far. I've defeated three bosses at the moment and the game is just starting to ramp up the difficulty. Haven't fallen in combat yet, but I have taken about 50% damage in the last boss fight.
