Hi everyone, the wife and I just finished both campaigns, and while we wait anxiously for Heroes of Hammerwatch, we would like to get some suggestions on similar games. They don't need to be fantasy themed (it's a plus though) but as we play together on our living room's HTPC and TV, they should have at least couch-coop and controller support.

So far we tried River City Ransom Underground and the wife wasn't impressed although I'd like to give it one more chance. Any other games we could try?

Some others you can try are:
Serious Sam's Bogus Detour, made by the same developers as Hammerwatch

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition, the latest version of the game that inspired Hammerwatch

GOG's got a big list of co-op games here, but many are not local co-op, and some don't support controllers:

THanks a lot, we followed your advice and we're having a blast with Gauntlet, although that bloody second level is tough as nails, even in easy mode :)
Alright, glad you're both enjoying it. :) And you're right, it can be a pretty tough game at times.
Try "Tower 57" and look out for "Tower 57 Two-pack" , if you want to make someone a gift.

Also:

"A Fistful of Gun"
"Enter the Gungeon"
Hellmut: The Badass from Hell"

I would add:

"neurovoider"
"death road to Canada"
"unepic"
