Hi
I'm a bit stuck on the Earth mission 2 - every time the mining ship deploys on the asteroid, I get the message that it's been lost and that I've failed the mission. Doesn't matter when I deploy the miner, before the first fighter wave, before the rogue ships or at the end of all that, it still tells me I've lost the ship and I've failed the mission.
I've had a look at the walkthrough from a previous thread on here and that doesn't have any pointers on when to deploy the miner so I'm thinking this might be a new one?
Any help appreciated.
Alex.

Hi there.
I guess that's because you're deploying the miner in one of the 3 asteroids in the asteroids belt just above earth.
The correct asteroid where you have to deploy the miner is the one just below Saturn, it's marked with a red flashing square around it.

I'm deploying the miner on the asteroid that gives the 'tooltip' of 'deploy miner here' when I hover the mouse cursor over it. There isn't a red square round it though.
The journey time takes the miner to the asteroid about a minute or so after the first wave of fighters are intercepted if thats any help?
I'll go back into the game and make sure.

All minerable asteroids will give you that tooltip.
But in this case, you'll have to deploy on the specific asteroid i mentioned.
Use the 3d map to identify the asteroid in question. In the 3d map you'll see the red flashing square around the correct asteroid. It's the asteroid just below the planet Saturn.
Edit: Press the SpaceBar to enter the 3d map mode.

I think there may be more going on here - I can't use the keyboard to control anything at all...gonna try it on a different machine :)

Pressing the SpaceBar on your keyboard should bring up the 3d map. And pressing it again while on the 3d map should 'close' the 3d map view.
And while on the 3d map, moving the mouse pointer to the edges of the screen should allow you to move around on the map.
Isn't any of this happening ?

Nope - nothing.
Just finished installing on another machine, got past that level and the Neptune base one with no hassles. No keyboard problems at all.
Definitely odd!
No AV on this new machine (it's a VM and mainly used for testing software, just thought it would be ok to run this game on :)
I'll try a couple of other things on the 'gaming machine' before giving up on it totally...

Yep, that is weird.
And if your keyboard wans't working with the game, meaning you couldn't bring up the 3d map, it's no wonder you were having problems finding the right asteroid to deploy the miner. The 3d map is crucial to play this game.

It did make life a little difficult (of course - I could have read the manual and found out that keyboard commands were essential - but I figured as I've played loads of these kind of games it couldn't be much different :)
I'm now on something like level 6, into my new system and building my military base :)
Thanks for your replies and prodding me in the right direction.
