Has anyone tried the game with an Xbox 360 controller by any chance? Can the controls be remapped?

I have a Logicool F310 capable to switch between x360 mode and direct input mode (generic dual stick gamepad config).
It only works in x360 mode with Gun, so I assume that also the original one will work.
Despite this, the default controls are quite messed up but fortunately you can rebind everything. Also no controller buttons are shown in the game interface, just good old keyboard keys.

IronArcturus: Can you rebind the controller keys in-game without needing a 3rd-party program?
Yes, you can. I tried to rebind keys and everything worked well. You can also rebind sticks, which is pretty cool but also necessary, because my screwed up default configuration comes with the camera controls assigned lo the left and right triggers.
