For anyone interested GGX2 is running great for me under linux using wine 1.2 . There is an occasional white box during some effects but that can be fixed in the configuration and turning off pixel shaders, but Its not very noticeable if you didn't.

The only real beef so far is the control setup is giving me some pause. Player two is getting mapped to the same buttons as p1 and they seem to all be getting reset after each run. Meaning I can't disable player 2 ( or play 2 players) and I have to set my controls real quick each time I restart. Some of that may be more the game than linux/wine but its hard for me to tell. Plus my controller setup is a little unusual. Its a twin PS2 controller converter.

However, once the controls are set and pixel shaders are off, the game runs fantastic.

***edit
In options there is a save feature which I assume would save my controller config but its not turned on by default. I just changed it in the config program though it isn't as easy to uses as the in game menu, but it may be the only way to get two controllers working.

If you turn analog "ON", you'll get GGX2R to stop pausing when you click down on the analog sticks. Turning anolog "ON", ironically, actually turns it off! Which I'm cool with because I'd grown up playing 2D fighting games with the D-pad (Street Fighter 2/MK2, SNES). Note: I'm using a Logitech Dual Action USB controller (PS1/PS2 Dual Shock clone).

As far as GGX2R running on Linux? It's a big turn on for me. I'm using Windows 7 now on my laptop. I know, it's a resource-hog from Hell. But I intend to switch to Ubuntu when I get a new PC in a year or so. So any cool stuff that can run on either os is cool with me. I'm already basing many of my purchase decisions on cross-compatibility...just looking ahead of the curve.

Linux has its up and down sides, and if I had a working win7 install I would hesitate to do away with it completely, but if you do ( or even if you only dabble into linux via dual boot) then you will probably want to spend some time here

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&sTitle=Browse%20Applications&sOrderBy=appName&bAscending=true

If you need to run win software there are no real guarantees but out side of that there are some great programs to cover the everyday stuff like K3b for disc burning, OpenOffice for that kind of thing, and of course every web browser out side of IE. Plus most of the good stuff is on windows too so you can try it before giving up windows only options. Oh and most installs are also "live" discs that run in ram to give it a test run before install, though it is much slower that way.

Anyway I've had good luck with a number of games, UT2004(native and personal fave), Quake3, Return to castle Wolfenstein(both native), Dungeon Siege 2, stronghold, Space Rangers, PoP Sands of time, etc, Oh and of course GGX2.

If you go that way good luck.
For some reason GGX crashes on start.
it loads and goes to the main menu but when you press spacebar or wait a little for the demo battles the game crashes for some reason.
Using the latest Wine (I think) and Ubuntu 64-bit (with 32-libs ofc).

1.3.2 ? I'm using 1.2.3 which is considered the current "stable" release.
Synaptic should tell you what version is installed if you open it and look up the package. I'm also running 32-bit. I have an older 64-bit install of SUSE but I installed all "native" dll's for wine and upgraded it to 1.3.2 and damn near nothing runs on it anymore. Can't even run the GOG installers on it anymore. Which is weird because they used to work.

I'm glad Wine exists but it is a fickle program. Sorry its not doing right by you.
As and update I've recently redone one of my linux installs and upgraded to newer versions of wine. 1.4 on one install and a latter 1.3.something version. These newer versions aren't working to the same degree.

The 1.3.x system is running on a 64-bit mint 12 install and works ok, but it will no longer recognizing the ESC key. Which means you can not turn the game off. You must kill the process manually, which is a pain and may not restore the screen res.

The 1.4 install is running on a 32-mint 10 install (Ubuntu Maverick) and fails to properly set the screen resolution AND has the same ESC key issue

(The full screen issue is now working after switching to Compiz from Kwin. kwin has been very glitchy for me on that install so maybe its just a me thing. Turning on the 4:3 correction or whatever its called also helps with resolution issues, and is my long term solution..)

These installs are running on the same hardware. I don't know if this will be an issue for anyone else but I recommend some caution with newer wine versions if GGX2 is important. Though people should still feel fairly confident that they will be able to play the game.

Bottom line, the game still works fine but the ESC key not working is highly annoying. Ctrl+Esc for KDE users will help kill it off.

---
Best overall solution.
Disable pixel shaders to prevent white boxes.
Check aspect ratio fixation to help with resolution issues and to keep the screen from stretching on modern monitors(its job that has the side effect of avoiding some issues I was having)
Consider running it in windowed mode or using the "emulate virtual desktop" option for the game configuration in winecfg. This helps restore Esc key function so you don't have to kill the process to end the game.

im running both isuka and x2 #reloaded under linux via wine 1.5.20 which runs them both great.

kubuntu 12.10, 64bit with 3.7 liquroix kernel and latest ATI/AMD drivers

i have a few libraries loaded in wine config:

quartz - this is meant to help with videos etc
windowscodecs (why not)
winegstreamer - heard this didnt work anymore but not sure(wont hurt)

if you have trouble or graphical glitches in game

go to the guilty gear config and untick "pixel shader on"

i also use aspect ratio fixation which helps with full screen play :)
