Hi, I just started downloaded GC1, and everything worked perfectly, until I actually got into the game. Once I was in, My pointer was approximately 2 seconds behind my actual mouse movement, and everything was herky-jerky. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, and how they fixed it. I know that it cannot be my hardware, as I can handle Ground Control 2 and Dawn of War at maximum settings without a hitch. Thanks for responding!
Hardware:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Asus AH3450, 2GB RAM.
XP Home OS

What kind of mouse do you have? Drivers up to date on it and nothing fancy turned on with it that may interfere with the game?
Thank you so much for you're fast response! My mouse is a Microsoft USB Optical mouse, though I couldn't find any fancy stuff turned on. I updated the drivers, but the game is still slow. I think I misstated my problem though. The game itself boots up fine, but once I get to the mission briefings, Everything slows down. The mouse lag is just a symptom of the problem.
Ahh in that case have you tried messing about with the compatibility settings? Right click the games shortcut and go to properties. Then go to the compatibility tab and set it to run on windows 98. See if that helps or not.
Thanks again for the support! However, I did change the compatibility. No go. However, after fiddling with the video settings, I noticed that the game runs perfectly when I use the software renderer, though there is a Very large dip in graphics. What does this mean?

Well it sounds like theres some compatibility issues going on with your graphics card and this game then. Software rendering bypasses the graphics card and works off the cpu. With ground control 2 working fine on maxed settings I would take a guess that your card doesn't support some old method of rendering the game.
I'd first check your graphics card control panel and make sure no global settings are on, like forced antialiasing, if they are set them to program controled. Then put the graphics back to hardware and high like you had and see if that works
If not then try turning all the settings to low and turn off any extra settings possible. See if it runs then slowly add settings one at a time, see if you can find out what is causing the problem.
Thanks so much for you're help! It turned out to be the forced anti-aliasing.

I will offer my thanks too as this is the first time I've seen it mentioned about global defaults in graphics drivers causing slowdown.
I may not need this information at this present time but as I do have GC1 and GC2 from here (just not gotten around to installing them yet) it may prove useful at some point, and may be useful with other older games too.
I'll try that, too. The game worked fine on my PC before my old graphics card and motherboard died, and I have problems running it with my new Radeon HD 3500 graphics card. My old graphics card was a geforce 6800. I have an Athlon 2400+ and 1,5 gb RAM. I cant update the radeon graphics driver cause my PC always crashes, when I do that. I think that must be some incompatibility with the mobo or problems with the processor. The mobo I use now is older than the one I previously had.

This somehow doesnt work. I set all setting to be application controlled, but the game still lags. The only way to get decent framerates is setting view distance to the lowest setting, which looks shitty and makes the game harder to play.
Hmm, I also tried a BIOS update now, but I'm still not able to update my ATI graphics driver. I can only use the one provided with the graphics card. I'll try to play GC again next time. But I think it'll stil run slow.
I have a similar problem running Windows 8.1 64 bit and an AMD Radeon HD 6520 onboard graphics. I get a constant 18 fps no matter if I lower or increase the graphics.
The menu is capped at 30 fps. So, clearly there's something foul here. I have tried to install an older DirectX version but Winodws 8 won't let me install DirectX if it's older than the stock version that comes with the OS (DX 11). Anybody have a solution for this?

Try the DirectX 9 redistributable.

Thank you, I tried this. It managed to install DirectX 9 successfully. Btu the framerate is still low. I bought Ground Control 2 and checked, even though it has better graphics the framerate was much higher.
