Ground Control was made available free as a promotion for the release of Ground Control 2, and it still is available for free download. It doesn't include the expansion, so it isn't the same package, but if you want to get a feel for the game overall, check it out.

So basically the only difference between gog's game and the fileplanet is the expansion?
yes the only difference is the expansion... if you want to word it a different way you could say you are paying for the expansion and getting the game for free
Also, the version of fileplanet has an annoying bug during the briefings where the audio loops for 2-3seconds until the next bit of dialogue is played.
The GOG version doesn't.

Just enable Windows 98 compatibility on the executable. Always works for me.

Or install the patch: http://www.massive.se/gcdownload/
As I remebered. GC always had problem with sound glitches (for exmaple in pre - mission-briefings) when playing in 32 bit. GOG version finally is free of those, does this free version too? EXpansion shouldnm't be a problem. I remeber that when it was released it was free from the start.

Got that one right, buddy!
I just downloaded the GOG version of Ground Control 1 the other day and, wouldn't you know it; that damned looping glitch in the pre-mission briefings is still there!
How do I get the game to run in Windows 98 copatability? I've heard that doing this will stop the voice audio from fraking up on me.

I don't know if the process is any different in Vista, but in XP you can right click on the main executable and click properties. Then go to the compatibility tab and select the relevant compatibility mode.
