Don´t Buy this game

The scenarios are not willing adapted to the current panoramic format ...
The modeled are the same, except that you have antialiasing and giving some shade ...
And for the top 12 € and inflated requirements (4 GB of RAM really?)

If you want to play do with the old version including mods:
textures in HD
1080P and widescreen support
Point and click integration
and more ...

And that's on purpose. The game was made and meant to be played in 4:3, as an homage to Casablanca.

And high-resolution textures, advanced lighting, remastered audio and soundtrack, alternate control schemes, etc...

This is a remaster, not a remake. If you don't know the difference then it's your problem, not the game's.

the_voivod: In this day and age, I'm not sure how many people are going to be convinced by that answer. Why not have it in black and white, too?
Due to the pre-rendered nature of the backgrounds, any widescreen possibility would crop the picture.

Um, this remaster is planning to support widescreen resolutions as well.

4:3 letterboxing and so on are design decisions. Nothing to be outraged about.

That is not a finished mod. I am not sure they are working on that anymore.
And some info about the video that the mod screenshot you provide was taken from:

Update: ultraneonoirantihero has explained how they put the video together in the Residual forums. It was actually all done in video editing software and PhotoShop (and not Residual), but it's still very impressive indeed! You may not immediately appreciate just how much work went into it, in fact. Take a look for yourself.

Please, inform yourself before declaring 'fail' on others. In this case, the fail is on you.

How can you say that if the game is not even released yet?

Sorry, but I already bought it.

the_voivod: Leaving aside all the testosterone on both sides, good news if this does indeed support widescreen.
"Widescreen" is a bit of a stretch.
It's still 4:3 with mural-style borders painted on the sides to make it fit a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Just check out the pre-order video.

So yeah, not much different from having black borders on the sides of you widescreen projection device of choice.

Still bought the game.

That widescreen video is not even a mod. As the description posted by the creator states, that video isn't actually running the game through ResidualVM (or the original Grim Fandango interpreter). All it is is a fan video that used video editing software and Photoshop to show what a widescreen Grim Fandango could look like.

Since it's only a video (made with video and photo editing software, which, although a lot of work to do, is a lot easier than actually editing the in-game graphics and scripts, which is what Grim Fandango Remastered does) and is not in any way a playable game, it's definitely not a better way (or even a way at all) to play Grim Fandango than the remastered version.

I'm trying not to jump on the whole 'burn DF to the ground' bandwagon, but that really is kinda dumb. Like, I get it, I actually like playing in 4:3 on older games and not having a stretched image. But, I just set my card to force that. It does seem like they're trying to take credit for something they're not really providing. I'd actually just as soon the borders were black instead of some distracting mural.

Edit: I'm not seeing them advertising 'widescreen support' anywhere on the gamecard or video, so maybe I just got the wrong impression from the replies in this thread.
