After Installing the Grim Dawn Expansion, Ashes of Malmouth, my game performance is extremely slow/choppy even at the lowest settings. Before the expansion I was able to run max settings very smoothly.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks
Not here (Xeon E3 1231 v3, 16 GB DDR3-2400, SSD, Win10 x64 and GTX 970).
It was never that smooth. Every graphics option maxed out and mostly between 70 and 130 fps. :)

I installed FRAPS and my FPS drops to five as soon as it goes to the character screen. Something definitely not right. Maybe fully uninstall and reinstall?

I tried updating my graphics driver but no dice. Grrr.. really wanted to play this today.

The game goes into "hickup" mode for no reason rather often. There's enough free RAM left, more than enough free gfx RAM and CPU/GPU are boring themselves, it's annoying as hell.

I think I found the culprit, in my case at least: firefox running a html5 stream. Works fine when using the shitty flash player instead.

I regret ever buying this game. Had no problems at all. I re play it since The crucible on offer and it is like a slide show, evern down on 1280x720 with everything on minimum. Never seen such a poorly optimised peice of crap. Wouldn't be so bad but the graphics look like they are from 2006 anyway even at max. Such a pile of wank this has made me so angry.
I have this problem too. I had everything set to medium-max and it was nicely playable before the expansion. After installing it, it ran like a snail. After trying to reinstall driver, verify game files through galaxy and the usual troubleshooting, on a whim I tried the game under win10. Same computer, same game files, just a dual boot to different OS.

Now I can set everything to max and the game runs like a charm (if I discount the assertion errors, but that may be another issue. They can be "ignore always"ed). It could be my win7 installation has deteriorated too much after years of use, but this is the only game that had trouble so far. Seems to me that more than just multiplayer is broken in win7.
Using the parameter /d3d9 with the game's main executable fixes the bad performance for me. With Patch 1.0.2.0 they introduced a new renderer basing on DirectX 11. With the above mentioned parameter you start the game with the use of DirectX 9.

Ah. That helped me with a completely different issue. Game would launch if I'd selected the processor internal Intel graphic card, but not at all with the dedicated 'proper' graphic card. Works fine with the old renderer.
Yeah, I had bit of choppiness. Turning off shadows fixed it for me - everything else on full. Shadows are currently dodgy, anyway.
If you have a multicore CPU set CPu affinity to turn off core 0 and turn on core 1 then core 2 off and core 3 on.. follow that pattern till you are out of cores.

another option is to run this program: https://github.com/Lasse-B/GD-CPU-Affinity

It auto sets affinity at launch of grimdawn. This is becauyse the engine runs everything on 1 core, even if you tell it you have 8 and tell it to use all of them in the options.txt file.

I went from 20 FPS and stutters with everything low to maxing out all options, everything on high/veryhigh with ZERO lag/stutter
