Hi, I've just purchased the game and have terrible spikes no matter what video setting I chose, just get freezes for 1-2 second.
I've tried to update video drivers and tweak threads number through options.txt file with no effect.

My configuration is:
i5 760 2.8ghz
8gb ddr3 ram
EVGA GeForce 770 4GB

It seems this should be enough to run the game, but it lags even on low setting.
It's sad, as I wanted to try the game and not to ask for refund.
same problems here, roughly same configuration as yours (core i5, 8gb ram, dont remember the gpu but it handles skyrim high settings on 1600x1050 so...)
curiously those lags and spikes on a solo offline plays happen after upgrading to 1.0.0.4, no matter how low or high the settings i put.

BUT, something to note, on py two other computers (an old amd phenom x4 945 and a FX 6300, high ram and decent gpu too) i DIDNT SEE those lags or mini freezes.

Also, the two pc that don't lag on grim dawn 1.0.0.4 are on win7 pro 64 bit while the laggy one with core i5 is (sadly) on shitty windows 8 that was bundle with it.

So, out of 3 comps, the one different from the other two both in cpu and OS is an intel on W8.

Dunno if it helps or if it backs up your own situation. we could have some lead here...

That is really sad, as I have no other PC to run it :( So it seems the game does not like intel cpu's, at least i5. I've also sent a request to GoG support asking for solution, still waiting.
Tried to change configs in nVidia control panel - does not help.
Also it seems there is no option to downgrade to earlier versions on GoG.
You might try lowering resolution to see if that helps.

tried that - on 1024x768 with all Low\off - the same picture.
I know this problem, you need to uninstall NVidia graphics, and install a 2-3 month old version of it. The beta or w/e version they (latest) can mess up and cause games to just not run right. I learned that when my Dragon age decided to frame rate with a 1 or a -30 rate. -_- I have pretty good graphics. Hope this helps.

Tried this versions 358.87, 364.72, 368.81 but did not notice any difference. Probably you know some particular version that should work or can tell which version you use?

I had to go back to the 362.00 one.
I'd be inclined to blame the CPU.

I've run the game at 4k res on an i7-4790k + GTX970 and it was a little glitchy under windows 8.1 64bit. Running at 2560x1440 is smooth. Had no problem with any of the recent drivers, saw no real difference between any of them.

Upgraded to Windows 10 64bit to test it while still free and it actually made the game playable at 4k res. Running the latest drivers only.

Reason I'd blame the CPU, I had the same setup just with the older CPU like you have playing WoW and it'd lag to hell at certain times. Replaced the CPU (and motherboard) kept the rest of the components and the lag went away.

Seems weird but the CPU is about 6 years old now and it might be struggling a little.
Well one thing that most people seem to miss when turning down video settings to get better performance is that there are plenty of settings that while lowering the gpu demand instead increase the drain on cpu.

An i5 should handle this game just fine but pretty much all programmers still suck at utilizing multiple cores so might well be that a single core cpu with high clock would run things better.

Had allot of crash issues lately but other than that my 2700k is crushing it in 4k, gpu on the other is forcing me to run on custom low/medium settings.

//edit

Just came to think of what the issue most likely is about!
Did not explain how often the 1-2 second freeze do happen but it really sound like it would be caused by a hdd spinning down and then having to startup again when the game next need to read/write data.
Standard in windows power setting is to have hdd's spin down to save electricity, also tend to be in firmware for eco/green hdd's too.
So first make sure you don't run the game on a green(for storage not games!) hdd and then go into control panel/power settings and either edit your power profile or create a new one. Under advanced you have hard disk and there set it's turn off to 0(never).

While electrical bill might be an extra dollar a year your hdd life span should improve due to less wear and tear.

I had the Black Screen bug, the only way that I found to fix this, was using the repair tool on Galaxy, after that I had to set up all Video setting on Medium, and AA etc off.

I hope it help you, maybe with the new patch problems are fixed. Good Luck
Just incase you guys haven't read it already somewhere else, try going to C:\Users\You\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\options.txt and change the line maxResourceThreads = 1 to amount of your cpu cores. Example: change it from 1 to 4 if you have a quad core. It helps my game run a bit smoother.

Here is the temporary solution for the issue I've found - delete GoG galaxy. After it the game runs on highest settings without a single spike. So probably this may help some of you to enjoy the game.
But if you delete GG - multiplayer would not be accessible.

I've submitted a ticket to GG support :) Probably they will find a better fix.

PS this is the second purchase attempt of the game. Refunded first one lol :)

Did you ever get a response on this one? I'm curious because I'm experiencing the same issue.

They responded that do not see any issues in logs and cannot reproduce the issue.

Actually it's fine for me now after some patch. But still one of the solutions is to delete gog galaxy, that helped me that time. If this won't improve performance - probably you have problem of different kind.
