Did you type the name?

I typed in a name, yes

Default directory for game is: C:\Users\***\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn, check that it has writing permission.

Sigh. It's read-only, as are many folders in my Documents dir. But win10 steadfastly refuses to let me change these perms, so your fix is tough to test. I'm working on why that is.

Okay, so I went into the Security tab of Properties, and I do have full control over this folder, read-write, everything.

And I've now uninstalled completely, and re-installed using GoG Galaxy this time. Same thing.

I looked down into the folder, ...\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main, and the name of my character is listed there, prefixed with an underscore. There's a folder inside, "levels_world001.map", and it's empty.

So I'm completely perplexed. I am going to try installing it on Windows 7 and see if it works there.

I installed on Win7 and it's working fine. Go figure. I'd like to get to the bottom of this, since my main machine is WIn10.

I had the some problem and I needed to allow Grim Dawn.exe in the ransomware win10 security. It seem to get blocked automaticly for some reason. There is probably an explanation but dont ask me :)

We can try to import the character of another player and see if you can play as that character and/or if it allows you to create a new one.
Let me know via PM, so that I can send you a Google Drive download link to my character file, which you can then import in your game.

Bad english. I can not create a character when using сyrillic letters in the name. Like that Опа с ушами. In english it all work.
This only happens on win10. Win7 allows it
