Just downloaded and updated the 1.1.30a to 1.1.3.1 Hotfix 1 via the offline installers and now the game won't start. It just gives me an error window (see attached).

I'm guessing that it's because I've not got Galaxy installed - not cool if this is the case - hopefully there will be a hotfix for the hotfix soon.

Try verifying the game files.

MedeaFleecestealer: Try verifying the game files.
As I've already mentioned I don't use Galaxy or even have it installed.

Hi Pajama.

Since you are not using GOG Galaxy, you will have to re-install the game and see if that works.
Before doing so, you might want to download the latest version of the Grim Dawn installer, instead of patching the previous one.

Cheers.

I did this to be sure - I downloaded the 1.1.30a version a couple of days ago (which took ages on my connection) and then downloaded the hotfix yesterday. Version 1.1.30a works fine but when I use the patch to update that's when the trouble starts.

I'm not going to download the complete game again as, apart from the time it takes to download, it takes quite a chunk out of my data allowance. If no fix is forthcoming soon I'll just play the version that I have that works (I'm nearly at the end anyway I think) and then just uninstall and forget it :)

Hi again Pajama.

In the future, I suggest checking whether the game files are protected by an anti-virus software, and disabling it before installing any patches.

Cheers.

Thanks :) However I already do this.

Than my last suggestion is to try removing any installed mods and ofcourse let the Crate team, know via their support e-mai, of this issue.

:)

Farewell.

P.S.; Try using administrator rights for the installations (you probably did already) or install the optional "GOG Galaxy" program and let it perform the automatic updates and file verification.

I've a similar issue. 1.1.30a was running fine. 1.1.3.1 Hotfix 1 does crash on startup. My error looks like this:
Call from 0x7bc71ac1 to unimplemented function Galaxy.dll.?Init@api@galaxy@@YAXABUInitOptions@12@@Z,

I don't use GOG Galaxy either. So I think we have to wait until the developers fix the error.

It does look to be a Galaxy issue then - insofar as if it's not installed then the hotfix won't work :(

I've got back in touch with GOG support about this so hopefully there'll be a fix soon. I'll repost back here when/if they get back to me.

I've got the same error as you:

Have you by any chance already got some answer from GOGheads?

Unfortunately not :( I've sent another email detailing the problem but nothing but blowing tumbleweed in return so have given up hope really of ever getting a reply. If I ever do (not holding out much hope though) I'll post here. Right now I'm not particularly impressed with either GOG or Crate Entertainment.

Well, same as I. Especially concerning GOG. As for Grim Dawn, I just wanted to get some notion why everyone seems to love it so much :) But to my misfortune I never use any online-based things like clients, only the good old offline distributives.

Me too. I don't mind waiting a day or two for updated offline installers so that's not a major problem but it does annoy me when non Galaxy users are totally ignored.

As for the game, I've finally finished it, I actually enjoyed the game itself except for one thing, the placement of the portals are too far apart with too much to do in between for quick session plays. It is awesome that the levels are huge but I don't always have ages to play a game (only have ten minutes or so sometimes) so I got quite bored having to redo the same stuff over and over. Personally this game would be near perfect if it had a save anywhere system. Still I'm glad I eventually played through it but probably will not bother again.

What are your thoughts on the game, from your comment it seems like you're not particularly impressed?

I managed to try it before some next fix broke the offline distributive (I watched GD development since the announcement I think) and I played a little the base game, then a little after Malmouth came, and again a little after release of Forgotten Gods.

Being the huge fan of Titan Quest (and diabloids generally) I was rather disappointed with what they did here.

First, I'm not much impressed with the setting and the lore part. I feel not much satisfaction while trifling with items in my inventory (that always was a big part of enjoyment of playing diabloids for me), I just don't like these rusty heaps of something that look almost identical to me. So, as a consequence, I feel no enjoyment in reading/learning items prefixes/suffixes (as I used to feel in Diablo, Titan Quest, Hellgate London etc), no joyful anticipation while looking at loot being dropped, and so on.

Then, I don't like skill trees much, both their layout (I like Diablo/Titan/Hellgate vertical orientation and can't get into new horizontal one) and the effects of skills themselves. Actually, I just don't see any interesting or original skills, they all seem... I don't know, generic?

Further, the constellations system seems too excess for me, it feels made just for being original-like (since we have no original skills in regular trees) but they are just pluses to some stats. So what such serious 'new' system was invented for? Just for scarce pluses and for the sake of 'looking original'?

Lacking of 'saving anywhere' option is a flaw for me too, though rather minor one.

On the whole, I just can't feel myself at home in this setting. This and some design decisions that are dubious for me - all prevents me from enjoying this game so far. And I realize that this won't be mended from developers' part, this is my own disposition that plays the main role. And it's a pity because Grim Dawn should be the perfect game for me 'on paper'.
