Hi all, haven't been to the forums in ages. TLDR at bottom.

I love action RPG's like Diablo(played all 3), Titan Quest, and Torchlight(really enjoyed both). However, the lack of inventory space tends to irritate me. I don't like throwing stuff away because there's no place to put it.

That's what made me quit Titan Quest. I could only get more inventory space by starting many heroes and switching between them endlessly to parcel out all my loot. Eventually almost all my time was spent logging in and out of characters to distribute loot I might well one day use ... or maybe no, who knew.

Anyway TLDR: What's the inventory system like here? Is it exactly the same as Titan Quest?

Yup, it's like Titan Quest.
To add, in Grim Dawn, you get lots more space than in Titan Quest. More inventory space, more and larger quest reward bags, four tabs worth of shared stash, as well as items in general being smaller than items in TQ. If you're going to be hoarding epics and legendaries, though, you'll probably still need to make mules, but it'll be less painful, especially with the more generous shared stash.

Thanks a lot! I hope it is better.

I remember in Diablo 2 there was a third-party inventory management utility, maybe called ATMA?, that was great and let you easily store infinite inventory. Wish every game had that.

Any idea if this game has anything like that from third-party fans?

There was "TQ vault" for Titan quest, and I hear about similar project for Grim Dawn.
I was out of touch, but IIRC it wasn't released because it could be used for item creation, and because game was in beta devs asked to not release anything like that because it could cause false bugreports.

Anyway, game stores your shared stash in files (*gst and *.gsh, iirc), you can backup those and load at will.
I have had stashes with sets, legendaries, etc. No mules needed.
There is a mod that increases the size of the bank inventory but it loos a bit ugly IMHO.

There is also a third party application that can swap items between your in game inventory and an external app handled inventory. The benefit of using the 3rd party app versus making mule characters is that you only need to log in and log out once not twice and that you can use a search function to locate the item you are looking for.

I haven't used either but you can check them out in GD official forums or nexus or moddb.
As others have said the stash situation is similar to Titan Quest but with probably triple the stash space. It can still get tight if you save uniques and set items though, so I use GD Stash

The interface isn't as intuitive as TQ Vault was for Titan Quest, but once you get used to it it's pretty easy. It also has unlimited stash space so you never run out.

You have to advance in the campaign to earn bag tabs, but it's tempting to level up in The Crucible for Devotion points instead.

Your shared stash can be upgraded, but it costs a lot. By the time you can afford it, you will have a ton of blue items.

You probably want to filter down to green (rare) quality at the lowest. This will be a big sanity saver, but it can be hard to find enough gear for your first character if you don't settle for yellow (magic) at times.

What I tend to do is make mules for whatever character classes I eventually want to level up. All my shields go to the shield guy, all my two-handers go to my Warder, and so on. Cleaning out the shared stash from time to time should take care of most of it, but if for some reason you absolutely need multiple characters to use the same item, it will get annoying.

Grim Dawn is moderately generous, and it makes me angry thinking about how D2 leaves you hanging out to dry. You literally need two CD keys just to move items, and if you do it from a single computer with a modified .exe, you'll get banned. They care enough to ban people, but not enough to provide basic modern functions everyone else takes for granted.

This sounds very cool, thanks. There's a lot in this game that's not intuitive (the devotion thing seems like a nightmare of obscurity), so I hope this has a good FAQ or something. Worth a try!

I agree about D2 and the other Diablos. They wait until an expansion to give you more than the tiniest stash increase, which is ridiculous, but I can understand it on some level. After that, though, they should give you a massive stash instead of just an incremental improvement for a game that has huge amounts of sets to complete, gems to hoard, etc.
