I've heard this is one of the few games that overall performs better on console.

Thoughts? Anyone care to share their experience on either (or both, if you happen to know)?

Don't know about console but the PC performance from my and many others' experience is the same: dismal. You'll get some small stuttering practically everywhere after the first zone when you exit the initial tutorial. And this isn't even before you leave the first city. I've heard it gets worse when you get to the island which forms the major part of the game. You'll get slightly more performance if you lower the settings but at the cost and disappointment of reduced visuals. Its like they designed it to work smoothly with cards having only 8gb vram or more.

In terms of gameplay and story though, I have no complaints as they were pretty interesting for the short duration I played. I'd say just get a console version as they messed up the PC port quite bad. Sure you'll get modest graphics and 30 fps but the best thing about it will be the stability.

Thank you, you addressed exactly what I was curious about. I'd heard something about it was worse on PC. It's disappointing that the port isn't great, because it does look like an interesting game, but at least it's on console, too. Thanks a lot for your input.

It depends on what you're after. I have an i5-6600 and a GTX 1660 TI running at 1080p, Ultra settings but with textures reduced from Ultra to the next step down, High, Anisotropy increased from the default of Ultra x8 to Ultra x16, vsync enabled, triple buffering set in the nvidia control panel. During exploration, I have a locked 60fps in both wilderness areas and cities. During combat it can sometimes drop to 50s maybe sometimes 40s but it depends a lot on what's on screen. I think these were drops with larger and rarer fights. For this kind of combat, not a FPS, it didn't really seem to matter. I do use a controller, though. Don't know what mouse and kb would be like.

I'm rather happy with the game. The world, story line and characters are well done and all the quests seem to fit well together. There are quite a few options/skills to use in combat compared to TW3 but I'd probably rate combat in TW3 higher still due to a greater sense of immersion and polish.

Nice, thanks for the input on how you got it to work well. Good to know if I decide to go via PC, it can be made to play decently. Right now, I'm just trying to decide if it's worth going through the trouble to tweak my settings to get the game to run how I like it, rather than just going the lazy route and buying it on console.

But yes, I agree with what you said -- everything I've seen about the world and characters seem interesting, and it's nice when we get a surprise RPG from one of the lesser-known companies that turns out to be a welcome entry in the library. I know they've done games before, but the reception to this one in particular seems pretty good. I look forward to playing it on whichever platform I decide upon.
