I have played this game a fair few times over the years, but now I can't seem to get it to run at all.

I do have the De Vespe Conspiracy DLC, which I've heard may cause this with mods... so I uninstalled, deleted all the mods and... it's still happening.

Some source on steam recommended the Codec Tweaking Tool, but that wasn't it.

I can't figure out what's going wrong and I also can't figure out how to play the game without the DLC (I guess I could install it without GOG Galaxy).

Any ideas?

bushwhacker2k: Any ideas?
I've played through the game plus the DLC with no issues using the offline installers (I don't use Galaxy). It may be worth seeing if you can start the game from the game executable and bypass Galaxy completely. Although I'm not sure if this can be done without invoking Galaxy but may be worth a try?
I stumbled upon the right answer.

Open "Documents\Greedfall\graphicconfig.txt" and make sure TEXTUREQUALITY is equal to 0, 1 or 2. Sometimes the game sets it as an absurd value and refuses to run.

Haven't verified mod compatibility with the DLC but I'm pretty sure this particular bug is unrelated to the DLC.

there's no TEXTUREQUALITY setting in that file I looked
I'm having the same issue. It just won't start. I also don't have TEXTUREQUALITY anywhere in Documents\Greedfall\graphicconfig.txt.
Same here.

Checked Codec Tweak Tool - everything is just as it should.
Checked configuration file - there was no TEXTUREQUALITY property, I've added it, no go.
Used dummy videos from PCGamingWiki (original mp4s cut to 1 frame, originally designed to speed up launch) - before that game crashed on the first Focus splashscreen, now it skips both videos and displays Loading in the bottom left corner and then crashes so this issue has nothing to do with codecs etc.
Checked run as administrator.
Checked windows defender history no blocks there.
Checked and updated video drivers (AMD).
While launching the game there's system notice/error sound in the background but nothing shows up.
Checked Windows log - some generic app crash, although it points to amdxx64.dll.

I've run it on Steam Deck (through Heroic) thinking Proton would do the magic but it crashes exactly the same way.

EDIT: ok I've found workaround on steam forum - copy 2 DLLs (d3d11.dll, dxgi.dll) from dxvk project into game's directory, the other way is to revert to 24.5.1 drivers for AMD GPUs

I have the same problem, I think the game doesn't work with the newer graphics drivers. My PC is well equipped and games like Cyberpunk or BG3 run perfectly on Ultra.

I can confirm this works. Put the dxvk vulkan renderer files (x64) into the main game folder.

It doesn't help me. I copied the specified files, after that 2 videos play normally (previously it hung on them). After that the loading window starts and after a minute it crashes. I tried on Windows 10, Windows 11. It works without problems in Linux via Wine, without any additional actions.
RX6700XT, AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 24.7.1

UPDATE:
Copying the specified files is not enough if the game has never been launched. What helped me was copying all the files from another location where I had previously launched the game to the save directory ..\Documents\GreedFall\. After that, the game launched.

Thanks. That worked for me! Kudos!
None of the above recommendations helped me, this is the first time I'm even trying to play this game.
worked for me, copied all the files from the link in the game folder and the game is now working! to me only hours to find this thread ^^
Non of the mentioned solutions worked for me.

Win11 23H2, i5 13600K, RX 6700 XT running Adrenalin v24.8.1

Edit: I've read about downgrading the AMD driver in another thread.
Rolling back to 24.5.1 worked for me!

After that, I get passed by the Focus and Spider screens, but the game still crashed on the Loading screen.

So I tried to edit the "graficonfig.txt" file and the game loaded after I used these configs:

VIDEOADAPTER=0 // 0 : AutoDetect / 1 : First graphic card
MONITOR=0 // 0 : First monitor
WINDOWED=2 // 0 : Fullscreen / 1 : Windowed / 2 : Windowed Fullscreen
RESX=3840 // In pixels
RESY=2160 // In pixels
REFRESHRATE=0 // In Hz / 0 : AutoDetect
VSYNC=0 // 0 : no vsync / 1-4 : number of vsync to wait
VIDEOMEMORY=0 // In MB / 0 : AutoDetect
TEXTUREQUALITY=1 // 0 : Medium / 1 : High / 2 : Ultra
USECMDLIST=1 // Activate driver command list / 0 : Off / 1 : On

OBS: RES X and Y changes automatic and I've never loaded the game, that was my first try to play and the game crashed.

I've a AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with a RX 6600 grafic card and 32GB of memory
I just had this issue. For me the fix was

1. Go to the Game page in GOG Galaxy
2. Click the settings icon (button) at the top/center of the screen
3. Click on "Manage Installation > Configure"
4. Uncheck the option for "Overlay [] Access GOG Galaxy features in-game"

This resolved my issues with the game crashing on launch. I'm running a Radeon RX 6800XT w/ a Ryzen 3700X and 32 GB of RAM.

Version: Greedfall Gold Edition v1.0(5686) w/ De Vespe Conspiracy
