I just purchased the Great Battles bundle and I cannot start up a battle. The game boots, but as soon as I select a battle, I get a "Caesar.exe has stopped working" error message and the program closes. I tried all the compatibility options with no luck.

On a different topic, I tried to open a trouble ticket, but the stupid gog website keeps looping me back to the previous screen / list of games I own everytime I click on "continue" from the "contact me", "technical issues" page. So far I tried to contact gog via Chrome and IE.

thanks
Unfortunately, the latest installer is broken and GOG still hasn't fixed it. See here for others with same issue:

Same here,

I can start the Alexander Battles, but neither Caesar or Hannibal will launch on Windows 8.1
I have the same problem with Caesar although both Hannibal and Alexander work.

I sent a ticket to GOG via the comments section.

EDIT: Using Windows 7

No, but see this post for a response another user got. Seems you can contact support and ask for a link to the old installer. It's strange they can't reproduce the issue given there are at least 7 users here who have experienced it.

I have this issue too. I bought the game yesterday, Alexander and Hannibals works fine, Caesar keeps crashing when i start a battle. I have sent a support request now i just have to wait for an answer
I'll add my voice to the chorus too. It crashes outright or, if I try to run it directly from the .exe file, it will go into a loop that requires me to kill the program via Task Manager. When it loops I get the image below; clicking OK does nothing, it just cycles.

I've got a support ticked in but it's been more than 24 hours, so I don't expect to hear back. I guess these games are just too old now.

EDIT: well, no sooner did I post this than I heard back from Gog. They gave me a link to the old installer and all seems well now -- no crashing. Very pleased. Thanks, Gog!

How do I get this old installer for Caesar? (Compatible with Windows 7) The "contact us" support features is just an endless loop that doesn't have a contact page, email, or form.

Here is the problem in a nutshell: the command controls are not working in the game at launch of the battle. If the first player is the computer then it gets stuck in a series of "interpretor errors" for the AI attempt at unit commands. Clicking 100 times or so never got to the end. If I am the first player then I instead get the "caeser.exe stopped working". Additionally on the initial launch screen the buttons are semi transparent for battle, load game, campaign, etc.

I know this game can work in Windows 7, because I have the original disks and could get Caesar to work stably, but the other two would crash when they tried to open the original map file for their respective games. So I bought this package to get all three working. Now Alex and Hannibal work, but Caesar doesn't. (And yes, I did uninstall, plus uninstalled dll's and cleaned up registry entries and directories of my pre-GOG handiwork.)

The system32 dll's and such look correct, but something is wrong with the install/launch wrapper.

I tried uninstalling all, then installing one at time, testing, then rebooting before installing the next. Same problem. I did it in this order: Alex, then Hannibal, then Caesar. I did notice one quirk in Alex after I installed Hannibal (before Caesar), when I launched Alex it would bring up the command prompt for the intro video, then a windows warning about WING.DLL "not designed to run on Windows..." but then it did the next command box and ran fine. Same thing happens to Alex after Caesar install.

The only thing I have not tried is another default Caesar install from CD. Since GOG uses the same base DLL's this might work.
