Hi old chaps,
I was just wondering, I've played Gothic 2, and, unfortunately, 3. Gothic 2 is one of the greatest, in my opinion, RPGs ever devised! I recall giving Gothic a go a while back, after having played Gothic 2, but I couldn't get into it! The controls were rather bizarre, not to mention there were many bugs (more than in 2!). Having to move forward at the same time as 'using' to do anything springs to mind.
Is the version on here any different from the original? Are any of the issues fixed? Particularly that one I mentioned? If not, would you still recommend it? Is it realllllly that good, particularly when compared with it's successor?
Thanks in advance!
If u liked Gothic 2 then buy this. The story is good as always, only the fighting is the same as in Gothic 2, but one of the best RPG I ever played.
Definitely worth getting. I've only played Gothic I and II so I can't compare to the third, but this game is great.
I agree. I've only played Gothic II until now. From the first looks Gothic is quite similar, with a bit more tricky controls.
Cheers,
Vorax
Gothic 1 is better than Gothic 2 in story and atmosphere, so yes.
You should get it. I played Gothic 1 after Gothic 2, and I felt it was worth it; it's really great seeing the Valley of Mines so *alive* compared to the monster-infested wasteland it was in Gothic 2, and the camps are wonderfully well done. The controls aren't really bugged, they're supposed to be that way, but they'll grow on you, and other than the clunky controls the game plays just like Gothic 2, with the same good mix of exploration, fighting, questing, etc. If you enjoyed Gothic 2 you'll probably like this one too.
I don't really know how much patching gog has done, although they've probably removed/are going to remove any technical issues, but seeing how you've played Gothic 3 you can probably handle the bugs in this game:) Honestly, there aren't that many.
you can't compare Gothic 2 and Gothic 1 with Gothic 3. G3 just doesn't have the atmosphere you get from the first two games.
Best is to start with Gothic 1 and then continue playing Gothic 2 incl. addon(night of the raven). Both games together should entertain you for at least 120 hours if you play them for the first time.
Yes. Absolutely Yes. I had the immense fortune of playing Gothic 1 before 2. Bumping into old buddies and enemies in Gothic 2 was a highlight of my RPG experiences.
I cant say which of the two Gothic games I like more. Gothic 2 is definitely better polished and more complex, but Gothic 1 is far better story and setting.
But about the controls issue, you can easily reconfigure the controls to your liking which is exactly what i did.
Dammit guys now I'll have to get this game a lose my real life, AGAIN :<

Really ? Damn, I just loved the 3rd and now the 1st is on my hard drive.. Nice. =']
G1 is a lot smaller than G2, but still very immersing. the developers actually used every inch of map space to squeeze something meaningful into it. So actually there's no lack of content, it's just condensed into the essentials. Unlike Oblivion with its acres and acres of repeating nothingness, almost every spot in G1 has a meaning :) Go, tiger! :-)
