Question is simple. I don't get why is it called that way since it is made up world (i don't see anyone saying they are goths tribes) or architecture since there is no churches or spiked buildings..

It's because game designers (Piranha Bytes) wanted to make a game set within a dark, gloomy and dangerous world (hence the name).
By all accounts, they succeeded.
