Hi,

Just installed Gothic 2 GOG Gold edition. All I had to do for the widescreen to work was change the Gothic.ini file in the Program Files (x86) dir. I changed it during the installation to just be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Gothic 2 Gold\".

I'm running at 1680x1050. Including a screen shot to see if it looks ok to you guys and if it's supposed to look this way. Looks normal to me, except the characters are skinny, but I read that it should be this way.

Now if only I could do something about the mouse camera movement speed, it's SO slow, and Q and E buttons feel...awkward..

Just wanted to note that the game does not appear to support 2560x1600 mode at all; any attempt to set a horizontal resolution larger than 2048 results in an immediate crash. The best you can do is the non-widescreen 2048x1536 mode, which does look pretty nice if you turn off the monitor's scaling.
This fix does not seem to work for me as my resolution keeps reseting on startup. I have the FPS Patch, Player Mod Kit, and Freddy Textures and World Patch. I followed the directions to the letter also.

I had your exact same problem, but I found a solution.

Instead of "copying" the GOTHIC.ini file and renaming it GOTHIC.in, start a new text document in notepad, and copy the text from GOTHIC.ini into it. Call it "start.in" or whatever, save it to desktop, it won't actually look like an ini file, but just copy it to the gothic/system folder, and try the .bat file, using the new .in file.

Worked for me anyway.

GOTHIC 1 Widescreen

The most elegant solution to run Gothic 1 in widescreen is also the simpliest; just add the command line switch:

-zRes:1920,1080,32

to the executable, either via batch file or by selecting the icon on the desktop and add the switch to its properties.

The example above it's for my monitor (1920,1080 32bit color) but you can put any values you want in there :)

There's absolutely no need to tamper with the ini file ;)
I had to give up on this game. i tried everything and it would still open in a windowed mode offcenter of the screen.

You're on Windows 8 I take it? You need the fullscreen border fix. The fullscreen mode then works correctly for both Gothic and Gothic II.

Thanks a ton - works great even at 1920x1080 32!
Hi guys ! This concerns Gothic 2.

The widescreen patch doesn't seem to work here. Everything still looks weird until I talk to an NPC, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought this patch was supposed to fix that, no ?
This is what I did to install it :

installed gog version normally (2.7)
installed gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2 manually (extracted content then replaced the .exe to downgrade to 2.6)
installed gothic 2 player kit
installed widescreen patch

Now I'm launching the game using GothicStarter.exe

Did I miss something ?

Spec :
hd5770
win7

Thanks in advance

(the only thing I have installed despite the patches is Vurt's graphics overhaul)

edit : oh and btw I'm getting an error regarding "vdfs init tools" saying that it has stopped working but the game still works, don't if that has to do with anything or even if I should try to solve it.

This worked for me, danke.

Gothic 2
I imagine that the solution that i used with Gothic works here too, but this time the game can actually see and set the higher resolutions too. The only thing you need to do for it is to open gothic.ini and change:
extendedMenu=0
to
extendedMenu=1

worked fine
Do you have the patches installed? Are you talking about gothic 1 and 2?
Player Kit
Sys pack
Textures
The fix
Both G1 (GD3d11 mod) and G2 (GD3d11,mod, too) run beautifully @ 2560x1440 and > in Win10x64, RX-480 8GB, Adrenalins 18.2.1. These D3d11 mod patches are so good, in fact, that along with the L'hiver texture patches (for G2), I do not recommend running these games without them...! Makes a huge difference. G1 has some texture mods that make a nice difference there, too. Once you run these games in D3d @ 2560x1440 and > you will never be happy with the games' original resolutions again...;) Love both these games.
Is there a detailed explanation as to how to install all those patches, waltc, and where I can get them? Because I've been trying to find such a guide, and a location for the patches, for a year now and have come up empty.

World of gothic's forum is a ****hole and nobody there has even the slightest idea how to post anything in a logical, easy to follow way.
So, hey guys, I'm running the game in 1920x1080 now, looks great.
One gripe I have with it though is that the ini does not appear to have an option for GUI scaling, and especially some text text and numbers is a bit too tiny for my taste.

Does anybody know of a way to scale the UI (ie adjust the size)?
