Does anybody know how to get Vurt's Gothic 2 Texture Pack? All the links seem to be broken.
Hi !

Does anybody know if there is a separate "Community Patch
" for "Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition" ?
It says at the GOG page : http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/gothic_3_forsaken_gods
that : "Developer / publisher = Trine Games & G3 Community Patch Team / Nordic Games"
So one could be led to believe that if there is a community patch that it has already been put into the GOG "Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition" game version/download !(?)......
Also I have read that the "Gothic 3 Community Patch V. 1.74" is only for "Gothic 3" and not for the ""Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods" game.

The Enhanced Edition was done by Mad Vulture, who are the Community Patch Team. There was an update released in December - don't believe the update is included in the game on GOG. Information here

Gothic 3 and Gothic 3:Forsaken Gods are totally separate games. The 1.74 Community Patch (along with upcoming 1.75 CP) is for Gothic 3 *only*.

Perfect ! , Thank you very much !!!
It's been mentioned but I'm saying it again for emphasis:

Gothic 1 Community Patch introduces an extremely annoying bug where you are locked in endless looped conversation with someone. Not worth installing.

Gothic 1 Textures Patch I also do not recommend. It never went beyond beta. It caused a lot of flickering water and ground textures and frequent freezes. Use at own risk, and save often.

In short, you don't need to mod the first game beyond unlocking FPS and maybe increasing your resolution.

EDIT: I also found that the Gothic 2 Community Patch (also by Ironkeep) completely borked my install. Was running fine before. After patch install, couldn't even run the game.

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences !
Is there a way to install Gothic 2 Gold in German to use the German mods at WorldofGothic with? I was eager to use those mods that allowed learning mana regeneration and the like.

But great a many thanks to the OP for listing working mods :)

I had a similar freezing problem in the very beginning of the game when approaching and entering the Old Camp. I had installed both the Texture patch and the World patch. After removing World patch it seems the freezes have disappeared. So if someone else is having the freeze issue it might help not to install the World patch. If the constant freezes return I'll make an update.
While listing available mods is useful for any game, particularly older ones, sharing personal experiences is always the most useful. It would be helpful I think if more people talked about what mods they've installed and what they think of them. Bengeddes for example shared his xp, it would be nice to hear others.

What do people think of the texture mods such as Texture Patch, ThielHater patch, NoName Mod or the Ironkeep Community patch?

What do people think of the Unofficial patch, Golden mod, or Dark Mysteries mod?

Feedback requested.
I'm using vurt's graphic pack for Gothic II and it looks great. Only problem is the water flickers like crazy and the game crashes a lot.

He recommends to use his own .ini file, but the download link doesn't work for me.

Gothic 1
I cannot make the widescreen fix work. I am running on a Windows 7 (64) laptop. My course of action is as follows:

1. Install Gothic I gog.com version
2. Move GOTHIC konfigurations (.INI) folder to desktop (This so I am able to save my changes)
3. Changes
a. Sightvalue to 14
b. Modeldetail to 1
c. Subtitles to 1
d. Blooddetail to 3
e. Resolution to 1920*1080
f. 32bit
g. Extended menu to 1
4. Save changes and placed folder back into systems file
5. Make a copy to the desktop renamed it to gothic.in and placed in systems file
6. Created gothic.bat file with mentioned inputs saved on desktop and placed into systems file

Game always runs at standard res of 640*480 no matter start up from desktop shortcut, gothic.exe in systems file or by starting up via gothic.bat file.

Only changing the GOTHIC.INI file allows me to run the game in widescreen 1920*1080 for one sitting only to revert back to 640*480 on the second run.

Sure I am messing up something in the naming or creating the gothic.in or gothic.bat file. While starting from gothic.bat I get a message saying it cannot find my files “C:\...\Gothic\system>copy gothic.in gothic.ini /Y Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.” or “… System could not found given data”

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

You need to edit the VirtualStore version of the file, not the one in Program Files. You'll find the correct file here:

%localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Gothic\system

Enter that path in a folder address bar or whatever and you'll go right to it. The VirtualStore version can be edited directly without workarounds. Make the same changes there and they should work as expected.

Arkose is correct - Installing older games into a folder outside of Program Files avoids these types of issues ('lost' saved games is a perennial favorite).

So, this isn't Gothic-only? It can be done with other older games? Lost all save games once in "Total War" which I think is as old as Gothic I. Is there a site which explains how to do this because, I have a lot of older games.
