I recently bought both Gothic and Gothic 2 Gold Edition on GoG because I really enjoyed the second game a long time ago. However, as you problably already have guessed by the title, I've been unable to launch the game properly.

When I first tried it out, the screen blacked out with the text: "X:XD3D_InitPerDX: Can't create D3DX content! Error:DDERR_UNSUPPORTED" appearing. I looked up the SystemPack and PlayerKit patches, downloaded them and it didn't really help me. I'm still unable to start the game and the same text appears.

If anyone replies, please explain in the simplest manner possible since I'm not the brightest guy when it comes to computer systems. Also, some of the terminology might be tricky for me since English isn't my first language.

Hi, searched on the Internet with that error and here what you can try:
- If you have an ATI video card (source):
Open {game folder}/system/gothic.ini with Notepad and search for "[video]";

Under video find:

zVidResFullscreenX=1024
zVidResFullscreenY=768

Change these values to your desktop resolution.
If that doesn't work or the game resolution is already the same, set a different resolution on your desktop and try again.

You could also try changing this value found below the resolution:

zVidResFullscreenBPP=32

To either 32 or 16 (this is the colour depth).
- if you have a Nvidia video card (source):
disable antialiasing and anisotropic filiter from your video driver setting

Anyway, if you post your pc configuration we can give you a better help! ;)
