Can't seem to get it to run. When I launch it, it shows up on task manager processes, but doesn't actually run.

My OS is Windows XP SP3, yes, I've tried reinstalling the game and restarting my computer.

I've seen this problem on the internet, but never seen any actual solution.

And none of any cracks seem to be compatible with the GoG's gothic version. So... fuck.

Updated my drivers, tried installing the game in a different directory than program files - nothing works...

Have you installed the 1.74 Community patch.? G3 is running on my XP SP3 (Nvidia video) system with this patch.

If you have a dual / quad core CPU . . . have you tried setting the Affinity to a single core (see attached)?

Edit: Hummn, now that I think about it, you might not be able to set the affinity since the game never really opens for you to ALT-TAB out to set the affinity.

Well, I would definitely install that if I had Gothic 3.

The problem I'm having is with Gothic II.

What CPU are you running?

CPU would be the: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+

Unless I don't know what CPU is.

I believe that is a single core processor so forget the affinity setting that I mentioned.

My only other suggestion would be to check your directX 9 version and if it's not the latest download the last release and install to make sure you are using the latest version of directX.

To see your version number, click Start, enter dxdiag in the Run field and press enter. Give it a moment to load and you should see the version. The last release of updated files was on 4/18/2011.

One other thought, try making the gothic exe a trusted program in the firewall. It might be easier to test by disconnecting from the internet and temporarily disabling your AV and Firewall. Try the game. If it runs, enable the AV and Firewall one at a time to determine which is blocking the game exe.

I don't have G2 installed at the moment so I'm not able to look at the game settings. Does the game install put a separate settings program under the Start, Programs, GOG,Gothic menu ? If so, try running the settings program looking at the resolution selected by default in particular. There may also be a settings.exe (some other name) in the install directory that will expose the game setting without the game running.

Sounds like a possible shutdown because of a video card conflict. Intel graphics cards are bad to do such things.

Only other suggestion I have is to temporarily disable video hardware acceleration to see if that would allow the game to load. Either find the slider on your card properties dialog on the Control Panel and move it to "none" or bring up the dxdiag dialog (Start,Run) and disable all and try the game (see attached). If it runs, enable them one at a time till you discover the culprit. I don't like this method as you have to remember to disable / enable before and after playing if it works.

Your dxdiag may look different. I would open a help ticket with GOG support if you have not done so already. Sorry I have no solution for you . . . and for not realizing you are trying to play G2, I'm well into G3 and have G3 on the brain . . . =)

Tried the "executing the game twice and sutting off rundll"? One of the instances of the game keeps running while the other shuts off. Sometimes it works :D

Tried, didn't work. Also, rundll doesn't actually run with Gothic on my PC. So when turn it off, it doesn't turn on the next time I launch Gothic, thus giving me one try, which so far has failed.

And nope, sadly that didn't work either.

I did open a ticket, their first solution didn't work out, so now waiting for the next thing to try.
