I have Gothic 3 orginal in DVD. At the time I played a bit, then dropped.

I've tried the GOG version with the Community Patch included.

I was hoping that could have improved things but... Jesus!
This game is embarassingly bad even in it's best form.

Is really something terrible. Combat and everything is just joke.
It's unfortunate that you still don't enjoy the game, even with the community patch.

I used to play G3 from release and accepted its bugs and weaknesses.
The community patch made it an awesome game imo.
Compared to G1 and G2, I enjoy the combat a lot more with all the different movesets. The UI is a lot cleaner, easier to use and the feedback on accepting, progressing and completing quests is way better!

Except for the getting hit delay, the combat is better then II. All one can do in II is mash buttons to beat those former swamp camp demons that are all over the place in II. Timing is needed, then it works fine. In all other aspects, II is better, though.
Oh good old days. I remember the buggy mess it was on release. I just say "boars". :)
I must admit I actually like a fully modded Gothic 3 better than Gothic 2 or Gothic. What finally pushed it over the edge was me finding a way to make it no longer stutter. I installed it onto my SSD.

The first thing I did was install the 1.75 community patch on top of the 1.74 that is included with GOG. I also use the alternate balancing to increase difficulty.
I then added quest pack 4.2 and content pack 2.61 as well as the Gothik 3 Graphics Boost & Advanced Lighting.

It does not make Gothic 3 great. It does make the best of the game and makes it pretty to look at.
Thanks.
@abbayarra are you getting those mods patches from WoG?

I personally like Gothic 3, even the original release version. What PB tried and in many ways did do, was something that had not been done before. The problem was the criminally greedy jowood, who forced the game out 6 months to a year early. PB even had a full 1 gig patch in the works but jowood was trying to not pay PB for their work.

The Community Patch is a problem for me (just posted a thread about it) and I probably won't use it. I can't seem to pick and choose which features I want. Hopefully someone knows how to use the patch but disable unwanted features.

The biggest problem with Gothic 3 is I really hate the "Auto Retreat". At release Orcs would actually run off with quest items breaking the game. It's hard to believe there's still not a mod to disable it, after all this time.
Here is the link to the modifications available for Gothic 3

It doesn't stutter for you at all?

I have it on my SSD with my fairly modern gaming computer and I experience fps drops like crazy. What could I be doing wrong?

I tried bassman7755's advice in https://www.gog.com/forum/gothic_series/gothic_3_fps_drops/post5 but I can't figure out how G3PakDir is supposed to work so I'm at a standstill.

I just finished a play session. I do get a very occasional pause in the game. But it is only a short pause every few minutes of gameplay and definitely does not affect the gameplay. Usually when I just started the game or when I am in a new area with a lot of graphics. I only have a a geforce gtx 750 Ti. I really regret buying only the 2 gb ram on the card.

Weird. I have a GTX 1060 and get FPS drop even on minimal settings.

What I do have is a very powerful processor. I've got the I7 with 16 GB of very fast ram and a really good 256 GB cavier black ssd.

If the game is installed on the SSD make sure it is not on the programs files folder. The other thing is that sometimes the drivers that come pre-installed can be really out of date. Also, I'm playing with windows 7 professional so I don't have to worry about windows 10 and its incompatibilities.

Remember that the game does not preload any graphics. They are loaded on the fly from the hard drive. If you are getting stuttering it is almost always coming from there.
