When I edit the Gothic.ini file it does not seem to do anything. I want to play the game on my laptop and his resolution is 1366x768 but when I edit the file with notepad nothing happens. I have Windows 7 (64 bit) and this is what i changed in the system folders gothic.ini:

[VIDEO]

zVidDevice=0
; ... index of graphic-device beginning with zero.

zVidResFullscreenX=1366
zVidResFullscreenY=768

zVidResFullscreenBPP=32
; ... used resolution

SJ-M-: When I edit the Gothic.ini file ...
Did you check the Virtual Store, and edit the .ini file there (f there is one) ?
Edits to the ini don't stick. These are the steps:

Make a copy of the ini file, edit it with any changes you want, and rename it Gothic.in

Then make a new text file in the same folder containing the following text:
copy gothic.in gothic.ini /Y
gothic.exe
exit

Now save it as Gothic.bat

Run from Gothic.bat
I tried the Virtual Store but the screen seems really wierd. Like the aspect ratio is wrong. It all looks stretched out. Is there a way to fix this, I can't remember Gothic 1 having this problem. And yeah it resets when I start the game again but I think that bengeddes response will solve that.

The aspect ratio takes effect after talking to an NPC.

seriously? everytime you load a game it is like this? Is there no fix for this? What If I get to a place with hardly any people?

You can try Mod 2. mentioned there, with it you shouldn't have to talk to people for the aspect ration to correct itself.
