So back in chapter 2 or 3 I met the hunter Talbin and his friend Engrom.

I come back to a paladin friend of mine (Marco? Something like that) and I see Engrom dead at the paladins' feet...

Question: What happened here... O_o did Engrom get mistaken for a bandit? Did Engrom suddenly contract that rage virus and get put down by Paladins?

He doesn't always die - I seem to remember telling him he was possessed and he freaks out and runs or something. I'm guessing that when he dies, it'd due to the beasts in the area.

Nope. It's a scripted death, but he only dies if you're PAL/DJG. As a mage, it's a part of the quest "Seekers" (about the possessed people). Plus, have you spoken with Talbin? There's a quest with him regarding (dead) Engrom and getting out of the VoM in the chapter 4.

BTW, the paladin's name is Marcos.
