When i click on the shortcut or the file Gothic2.exe in game's system folder - nothing, absolutely nothing happens. Running as admin does not help, compatibility modes do not help, closing other apps - no effect.
I have Win 7 x64 with ATI card.

You could try the suggestion in the last post of this thread
Hmm, I have the same problem, linked fix doesn't seem to do anything for me.

I have win 7 32 bit with intel 4500GMA.
:-( why I bought this game ?????? it does not start in any case and help i found ??????

If i buy a game here, i wish it has to work, because they say it runs also on 64-bit. So why do i spent 9€ ????? I had this game before and hoped this version here starts on my W7 64-bit System. But NOTHING !!!

This game is so far not startable.

I understand it's frustrating, but to be fair, the store page doesn't say it's Win 7 compatible. And it seems to be a win 7 specific problem :(

Is there anyone with Win 7 that has managed to get it running?

NEW POST

I SOLVED IT (at least for me, on 32 bit. I don't know how applicable the instructions are on 64 bit).
It's ridiculous.

Open the task manager and go to the processes tab.
When you start Gothic II, you will see two new processes appearing:
Gothic2.exe and rundll32.exe
When you end rundll32.exe, Gothic2.exe will also end.
HOWEVER.
-Start Gothic 2 twice.
-There will now be 2 gothic2.exe processes and one rundll32.exe.
-wait a little while to allow rundll32.exe to do its thing
-End rundll32.exe.
-Magically, Gothic II starts.

I have no idea what happens here, but it works. It seems like rundll32 does its job, but fails to exit and return to gothic2.

Great! Good to hear it helped someone else as well. Did you have a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7?
32-bit! Sorry for the delay.

no problem :) I was just curious if this also solved the problem on 64 bit. Well, perhaps the OP or shroedb will return here sometime to let us know.
Well i run Gothic 2 on win 7 with nvidia card but this was not easy i must admit. It is not a GoG Version but a Retail Version which i bought long ago and with the addon.

There is a huge site worldofgothic.de which will help for sure
For win 7 with nvidia you need a bit more to run it with some workarounds.
well that is some CRAZY stuff.

Just to throw it out there, I am running Gothic 2 Gold (GOG version) on Win7 32-bit, and I have not had this problem.
I have also Win7 32-Bit on my Notebook and the same probs, but not always.

Sometimes it works at the first try, most times when I plug in my portable USB Modem Stick, or with the Task manager trick.

I`ll try the Gothic-Starter 2.6a, maybe this helps
I was relying on the instructions in this thread to run the game, but I found that Google Chrome was the problem. If Chrome isn't running, Gothic II starts with no problem.

I'm on Win7 64 bit.

I have Windows 7 64-bit and have not had any problems. I do run Windows 7 with UAC off because that causes a lot problems when trying to run programs such as games. And I keep all my drivers up to date.
