Hi Community,

I just bought Gothic 2 Gold on GOG and installed it. But when i try to start the game, nothing happens. The game appears in the Task Manager, but nothing else happens. I'm using Windows 10 (Home, 64Bit) and i already tried to change the compability mode to Win7, but that won't help either.
Thanks for all kinds of advice!

Try running as administrator
Close any other programs, etc.
And wait longer for the game to load (very old game)
2-5 mins

Hope this helps

Thank you for your quick answer, but that didn't help :/ I started the game as Admin and waited for about 10min, but nothing happened.
Shamelessly stealing my own words. I'd advise starting with SystemPack (option #3), but since some people are opposed to installing additional software for various reasons, know that there are other options as well.

(The thread is for G1, but the fixes apply to both G1 and G2.)
1) check if you have any .RPT files inside/near the Gothic folder (e.g. if you have Gothic installed in E:\Games\Gothic, check if there are any .RPTs in either E:\Games or E:\Games\Gothic) and delete them, if you find any;

2) start Gothic twice (manually, not through Galaxy) and then kill rundll32.exe in the processes;

3) install SystemPack.

Does that program even load? All I ever get is a greyed out button.

Thanks @ helpo1,

installing SystemPack worked, the game now starts properly! Thank you all for your help ;)

Are you sure you have the right version of SystemPack and are choosing the correct folder (e.g. "D:\Games\Gothic 2 Gold\")? Most of installers for Gothic mods and patches cannot be started unless you entered the correct path to the G2 folder.

Mine is located in C:program files (x86)\gog galaxy\games\gothic so, I guess it isn't correct. Don't have the disc version. The version of systemspack is 1.7 - just downloaded it a few days ago along with gothic-1 player kit 2.8 from that Russian site you mentioned earlier.

If I remember correctly, the Systempack will install on the GoG Gold version only once you replace its Gothic2.exe with the report version of that executable.

[Note: You will, of course, need to download the gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2 install package, not the other one, which is for the vanilla game.]

Like Philobyte said, do you have ReportVersion as well?

For "GOTHIC2: Night of The Raven"
1. Install game "GOTHIC2"
2. Install addon "GOTHIC2: The Night Of The Raven"
3. Install Gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2.exe
4. Install Gothic2_PlayerKit-2.8.exe
5. Install G2NoTR-SystemPack-1.7.exe or G2Returning-SystemPack-1.7.exe* or G2Odyssey-SystemPack-1.7.exe**
* - only 'The Returning-2.0'.
** - depending on addon that you choose.
6. Play.
EDIT: Ah, wait, you're talking about G1. In that case, you should install PlayerKit 1.08, then PK 2.8, then SP 1.7. If you get Access Violation errors after that, check if you have Data Execution Prevention disabled. Gothic installed in C: can sometimes cause problems as well, so I'd recommend installing it on another partition.

No; it's Gothic 1.

I think we crossed wires - ie, I posted while you edited. I didn't see the edit, anyway. I see there is some sort of PK that I didn't know about so I'll download and try. I'll get back but, it may be a few days as i'm having an unrelated problem where Gothic-1 disappeared but won't install from my library. Sometimes I think I'm living under a curse :)

I don't think we did, since I edited that a whole day (or at least a good couple of hours) before you replied, but I can't really blame you as I produced a much worse oversight not too long ago myself. :P

Finally, GOG Galaxy is working on my machine again. Got a fresh Gothic and ready to patch! I'll let you know how it works.

EDIT: where does one get PK 1.08 - not listed at Yandix? Oh, and for a good chuckle on me, of course you edited before I read; it's right there above where I said, "no, it's Gothic 1". I think I need new glasses (or something :) ).

EDIT2: From what I read, this patch is already installed in the GOG version so, I may not need it. World of Gothic download page is blocked for me for whatever reason - maybe I'll try a different browser then Firefox but, trying PK 2.8, when I change the address to the GOG Galaxy\games\Gothic folder, "OK" is still greyed out. I guess trying to move it to a different folder is the next step but, I do dread doing that. Galaxy seems easy to break and I just went through a week long process with supportb to get it working again.
