Hi,

I just installed Gothic 2 and it seems the Alt+Tab is not working. It was the same in Gothic 1 but it was solved when I started the game using the gothic.exe file in the system folder (previous discussion). This doesn't work in Gothic 2. Is there any way to go to desktop while playing as I am reading some walkthroughs and guides while playing?

Thanks.

The following will work:

1. Open Programs and Features in the Control Panel.
2. Remove the GOG.com Gothic 2 entry; this is not the game, just the compatibility fix that blocks Alt+Tab.
3. For Windows 8 install the Gothic and Gothic II fullscreen border fix, otherwise you'll see a window border in fullscreen mode.

Thank you very much. I did that. Now when I Alt+Tab, it goes to the other window but then comes back to the game after a couple of seconds. No idea what I am doing wrong. Maybe, any settings in gothic.ini file?

Oh, hmm... you could try running it in borderless fullscreen windowed mode; open Gothic.ini and set zStartupWindowed=1, then choose your desktop resolution in-game.

The game may crash if you switch tasks during FMV cutscenes but there are only a few of those so this isn't a big deal.

If the game acts strangely after you switch back (like Tab is being repeatedly pressed) simply press Tab again to resolve that.

I am on Vista, I installed the patch you gave a link to above and then did what you suggested above and now Alt+Tab works perfectly!

Thank you very much! Glad to see there is still a community for this wonderful game. I am big fan of Gothic series and looking forward to a next one :)
