It seems that several quests are no longer available now that I joined the militia. I read walkthroughs that told me what to say and to whom, but they tell me what to go do with myself. The bag of weed thing is an example, maybe others. Thanks.

Edit: This is Gothic 2.

I'm not 100% sure... but wearing guild armor change people behavior. Try unequpining militia armor and then try to talk to them.
I think most quests won't end just from joining one of the groups, except for those about joining them. It's more possible to 'fail them' when you move to another chapter, but it's not the case here (and it's also not 100% accurate).

I tried unequipping my armor before I talked to him, but he knew I was in the militia anyway. That quest is not in the failed list, so I hope I can still do it.

That's... little odd. In this case I can think only of one "game solution" - try to hind Oblivion spell (there should be quest with them in Khorinis) and try cast it on quest giver. It may help with your problem, but... I'm only guessing right now.

I have that spell and will try that. Thank you for the idea. :)
Yes, there are some guild-exclusive and/or guildless-exclusive quests.Go see this topic for the guild-exclusive ones.

Unfortunately, that won't work for most of them, because they'll always get your guild from the game scripts.

The most important one of them is Nagur (a thief, and a very cautious one). That means you can only get his quest as guildless, mercenary or dragonhunter. He won't trust novices, mages, militia and paladins. Even oblivion or not-wearing the armor won't help you.

Plus, since you need to do this quest for a peaceful way to join the Thieves Guild, you'll either have to forget about them (you won't be able to join them and complete a few of their quests - if you don't play NotR, joining them is the only way to learn pickpocketing) or you'll have to report either Jora or Halvor (both are thieves as well) in their respective quests to join them, but through the violent way.

The only way to get Nagur's quest if you're already in militia or the monastery is through cheating, and you must have a save before he denied your help.

Hm, so my choice is either to skip a few quests or revert to when I saved the game before joining the militia. If I skip them, it seems I will never find Bosper's bow. Is that right? How badly will I regret missing the xp that I didn't get for those quests?
Well, that all depends on two things.

1) Do you play NotR or clean G2?
2) Have you already finished the quests with Halvor and Jora? How?

1. I play with NOTR.
2. No I have not.
Bosper's bow is in the sewers - you need to get the key to them from Thieves Guild assassin. In order to get there, you need to get in touch with the Thieves Guild - you have to either complete all three of their quests (including Nagur's, which you can't), or report at least one of the thieves to Lord Andre.

So, you can still join the Thieves Guild easily, without cheating.

Just report either (or both) Rengaru or Halvor in their respective quests to Lord Andre. Then go to Kardiff. He'll send you behind Halvor's house. Kill Attila and take his key. Go to the barracks-side of the harbor (near Garvell and Brahim), to the crane. Jump to the water and swim to the right. You'll find a door, which you can now unlock.

Proceed through the sewers and talk to Jesper (tell him that you have already killed Attila and that you want to see his leader). He'll take you to Cassia, who will offer you the membership in the guild. However, if you'll refuse (in the contrary to the "peaceful" way - in that case, you can simply walk away), you'll have to kill them, and that can be not easy.

This way has just one "big" drawback - the thieves will want money to teach you things (Ramirez 300 gold instead of 150; Cassia and Jesper 100 instead of nothing).

---

PS: I'd recommend you to report Rengaru, because he has nothing to offer you even once you become a thief - just a +1 dexterity bonus. Halvor, instead, will buy silver plates and cups from you with a better price than other merchants.

Very helpful. Now I need to find out why I can't turn in Rengaru or just reload to earlier and do that quest over.

I appreciate everyone's input. This is a great game so far. I can't wait to progress in it. I considered skipping a lot of the city quests and going to Valley of the Mines, but I don't want to give up on so much content and I don't want to gimp myself with missed xp. I'm already looking forward to playing again as a different character type. :)

In order to do this, you have to get Jora's quest of finding the thief.
Go to Rengaru (he'll start fleeing to the tree under the barracks), catch him, tell him he deserves to be in prison and that you'll send him there. Then go to Andre and turn him in.
