I just bought it, downloaded it, and have tried to run it, but won't load yet. When I try to click on it again, I get a message about "replacing this instance", but no other sign that it is running.
Has anyone played this yet?

I'm also seeing something similar.
Don't know if this will help, but for me at least, directly running "Gothic.exe" from the system directory starts the game fine. Also, after doing this, it seems as if the game launches properly from the shortcut. Odd. Maybe some config file isn't being created properly by the GOG wrapper, or something.

Thamks, Phan, I'll try it. I'll look up how to do that, but if you or anyone else could walk me through how to get to system directory, and what exactly to put in, that would be great. Is it just the "Run" window?
I brought up windows task manager and under processes can see GOTHIC.EXE three times, two with memory usage of about 4940 K,and one of 60 K, and gogwrap.exe at 4304 K. I don't know if that helps at all.
Sorry to put this into forums, but support hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I'm having no problems whatsoever, just so you know. I guess it's really configuration-specific.

I think he means, that he launched the game by double clicking the gothic.exe file.
It sounds like you were messing around with the task manager while the game was running.
I don't know where you installed Game. Usually somewhere like C:_Program Files_Gothic.
And in this Gothic folder there should be a SYSTEM folder, where you could find the Gothic.exe file.
I don't have Gothic on my Computer right now, and don't know where the GOG version installs to. But basically you have to start Gothic.exe manually for the first time, then the shortcut on your desktop should work.
At least as I understood phanboy4.

Ok, I got in there. Went to system folder, but did not see an .exe file. Saw another Gothic Icon, which didn't start the game when clicked. Doing this does put another gothic.exe under the tab processes in the windows task manager, but does not launch it. I don't want to end these, because I get a warning message about that, but when I restart to stop them, The Gothic loading window pops up for a second before computer turns off.
Thanks for the response Der Baer!

Make absolutely sure gothic.exe/gogwrapper.exe and all related processes are stopped before you launch gothic.exe. Task manager will complain, but it won't make any difference. Reboot if killing them via task manager doesn't work.

I got that too, before it started working.
It worked for me, may or may not work for you. GOG is working on a solution, I'm sure.

Thanks for the feedback Phan. I haven't seen gog running on the task manager, just gothic.exe. I found what I think you were talking about by going to C drive, system folder for gothic, but didn't see anything labeled gothic.exe, just another game icon, which I click. This puts another instance of gothic.exe on Task manager. Before doing this, I either remove other Gothic.exe from task manager or restart to clear computer, but I don't get any different response.
This leads me to believe that we have slightly different problems or you are loading the game differently than I. I go to My Computer, than Local Disk (C:), then Program Files, then GOG.com file, then System folder, then I don't see anything that says Gothic.exe, just a big "G" game icon which is what I've been trying to load. Anyway, thanks for helping me on this. How's the game? I like G2, so I'm looking forward to it.

It won't be in the GOG directory, it should be in the Gothic directory inside the GOG directory. You should have a separate directory inside GOG where Gothic got installed to, and this is where you'll find the Gothic.exe file.
Hope this helps!

Hi Cym,
Thanks for the response. Is the directory in what I described? I have a feeling I'm not going to the right spot. I'm just going through the windows folders, not through any text version. Don't think I know where the directory is.
Thanks

Yes it should be in C:_Program Files_ GOG.com (or whatever it is called)_Gothic
So basically the directory you're in now, there should be a Gothic directory in that on the screen. If all else fails check to see if there's an option to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" - there may be a chance the directory is hidden for some reason.
Are you using XP or Vista? In Vista the GOG directory defaults to ProgramFiles(x86) - in XP it should be in Program Files.
If you need more help don't be afraid to ask! I stepped out for a bit but I'm back, and I'll check in to see if you've resolved your issue.
BTW it might be worth noting that if you uninstall Gothic and then reinstall it, you can see exactly where the directory is being made that the files are going to. If you still can't find the file then I suggest uninstalling via Control Panel and then reinstalling from the GOG downloaded file. Just write down the directory name when it installs, and then open up the directory after installation and click on Gothic.exe.
This is a last resort though, so hopefully you can find the file before having to reinstall.

The Gothic.exe we're talking about is in:
"C://Program Files/GOG.com/Gothic/system"
and although the file name is Gothic.exe, Explorer shows it as an executable with the Gothic icon.
