Has anyone played Forsaken Gods? Amazon has it on sale for $4. I'm thinking about buying it. I recently picked up the RPG Pack on Amazon for $9 and it contained 3 rpgs (Gothic3, Dungeon Lords and Loki Heroes of Mythology). It was too good a deal to pass up.
Run. Seriously, run away and forget you ever heard of it. It is not something to even be spoken of in polite company. It should not exist. It does not exist. Am I getting my point across?

Yes, thank you for your advice. The only reason I even thought about it was to complete my Gothic collection, I have all the other games.
The proper Gothic series basically ended with Gothic 3, then got picked up again with Risen. After Gothic 3 Piranha Bytes (the developer) and JoWood (the publisher) basically had a falling out, with PB going their own way to create Risen (which was basically Gothic 4 in all but name), and JoWood getting control of the Gothic name which they then promptly farmed out to an amateur development house in India to crank out Forsaken Gods, and then later to a different developer to put out Arcania (which was Gothic 4 in name only).

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll stop at Gothic3. Have you played Risen? I just started Gothic1 last week and plan to beat it over the next month or two. I'm also playing at the same time Realms of Arkania 1 Blade of Destiny which is an extremely difficult rpg, but I'm enjoying the challenge. I just finished Second Sight tonight, didn't care for it but I had to beat it because I bought it a few years ago for $3. I'm trying to work down my crappy games collection also. Will be starting Dead to Rights soon, another $3 purchase a few years ago.
I have played Risen and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Gothic 1&2. Same kind of feel and experience as Gothic 2, just brought into the modern era.
Also keep an eye out for Risen 2: Dark Waters, expected to be released some time next year. :)
Although it should be noted that Risen 2 will be using Steamworks, as Heretic777 recently expressed a wish to avoid Steam games in another thread.

Thanks, I will wait for a DRM free version in the future.
I think you'll be waiting a while (like forever) for a DRM free version of a steamworks title. My policy is if the thing has steamworks/other online activation I'll buy @$5-$10 only since I can never truly posses it. Basically the equivalent of rental prices.
This was the first game of the Gothic series I didn`t finish due lack of motivation. I haven`t bought the forth part so far.

Gothic 3 is inferior to the former parts but this ons made things even worse. The hero is an arrogant unfriendly pal and the whole game seems like an average made mod... Really a shame. If you are a fan of the series you might be somewhat dissapointed. If you can get it for a real good price, it might be worth a look.
At risk of destroying "polite company", I have heard many people say "avoid Forsaken Gods" but never actually any reason why? Is it terrible story? Buggy gameplay? Badly linear? I have it here, it was bundled with my copy of Gothic 3 that I am working towards trying (just finished 1 and am enjoying 2) but probably won't install it if it really is that bad!

The story is poor and contradicts the previous games, and in its original release state it had as many bugs and performance issues as the original Gothic 3 once did. It's since received an "Enhanced Edition" patch that fixes a lot of these complaints but by then many players had moved on and so continue to remember it in its initial state.

You might as well give it a go to see for yourself, but as with the original Gothic 3 you'll want to do so with the patch for the best experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I may give it a try after all then - with the patch of course!

Not to steal this post but I read a quote from one of the leaders of PBs that said:
1): The broke with JW due to being forced to sell Gothic III before it was ready
2): The contract with JW LEASED the title Gothic to them for a period of time (he didn't say but alluded to a year) and PB would get it back
3): JW is bankrupt and all production is on hold
4): whether or not "Risen" would become "Gothic" was a secret.

Anyone else hear this? Anyone know if it is true?
