With today's release of our Giants retrospective by Evan Shamoon, we're starting a series of in-depth articles on Good Old Games and we'll take a look behind the scenes to see how some of those classics were made.
Back when it was originally released in The Year 2000, Giants: Citizen Kabuto was one of those games that dared to bridge genres, bending the third-person shooter into the RTS, a mermaid simulator, and back again into something brand new. It was the first game developed by Planet Moon Studios—the brainchild of essentially the same team that created the excellent MDK at Shiny Entertainment several years prior. It was, as we like to say in the trade, ahead of its time.
That was an enjoyable read for a great game :]
Thank you for that. it was really great to learn about the game. Purchased it the first time and thought was one of the best pc games of that year.
Nice. I like these!
Giants was an awesome game. I only played it for the first time a year or so ago, and it still looked lovely in places.
the characters had lots of charm and were memorable, and the gameplay was more complex than most other games. (becoming almost an RTS in the later stages. )
Shame the kabuto levels turned out to be a bit too simple, but other than that, it rocked.
In-depth articles = really good idea.
Thanks for this one.

Thanks for this one.

This.
Good effort and keep it up :)

I like the idea of articles for various games, and Giants was a great game to start with. It is simply an amazing game for the time in which it came out and even today draws you in to a fun, funny, and at times difficult game that never stops serving up a good time.
Thanks
And here I was thinking GOG couldn't get any better...
A fantastic idea!
Impressive article, hopefully gog will continue to put more of these.
Great! Nicely done.
But... I was just thinking... Is there a link to editorials (even though there is only one at the moment)? It might be close to impossible to find this after a while when its not shown on the front page anymore. Link in the game section?
...I'll be posting feedback as well, don't worry ;)
This was a pretty great read. I'd love to see more of these in the future.
another great feature on GOG :) and this thing about Giants 2.. you could resist to write about that :P heh damn you! :D
I remember reading a few reviews about Giants years back, but only recently got the chance to play it thanks to GOG.
I am now thoroughly kicking myself for not having played it back when it was new. Seriously, this game just oozes brilliance.
It's a fun shooter with RTS elements, yet the RTS part isn't exceedingly complex and over your head. It just flows naturally. And, of course, I have to bring up the humor; I always enjoy a game with a good dose of good humor (one of the reasons I have this particular avatar, anyway).
Wow, I'm glad I read that. Very emotional towards the end.
I loved this game since the day it came out... well actually a month or so after it came out. I was in Europe at the time. This is one of the first games I bought there and have enjoyed playing it ever since. I still play MP with some friends of mine and get a kick from the features introduce in the game play.
I must also say that the article was very informative and keep me reading. I really enjoyed it. Good Job GOG. I look forward to more interesting articles.
GOG, you make the life of Good games last longer, Giants being one of them. Thank you.
Great site!
Very nice that you do editorials like this one on the titles you sell. Keep up the good work.
