Alaric.us: THe footlockets are each opened with their own key. Guards carry keys to their own personal footlockers.

Fishgius: Thanks, that makes sense. I guess I got confused because the very first chest I tried worked, but that must have been a coincidence then.

What about the purple banners?
purple banners was a quest in EA. Now it's seems to be only an achievement: you have to burn everything can be burned. So far I can tell you taht this is not a quest anymore

Thanks for all the answers! As I was playing today, another question popped up: I did the "Smithy's Work" quest where Rolo took away my suit of armor for 6 hours in order to "improve" it. However, I didn't notice any improvement. Is there any? I expected I could finally run or jump in the armor, but it seems exactly as slow and cumbersome as before...

Yea, this one is weird. The first improvement seems to do nothing. I suspect you should not be able to run in it initially, and it should be adding that ability. You also get another improvement later in the game, which allows you to run faster while spending stamina. Perhaps the first improvement is needed to unlock the possibility of the second.
Nevermind, I found what I was looking for.

I didn't want to spoiler myself, so I did not read the whole thread thoroughly but... has the question concerning the skills already been answered?! I also would like to know, how that is gonna work. Apparently I have level two, but none of the -
quite a few - skills show up with an icon...

You don't buy skills when leveling, you gain them as a result of completing certain quests. All leveling goes is increase your health meter.

Ok sorry in fact purrple banners are a quest (burn 13 of them) you just have to progress in the main story

Okay. I haven't gotten that far yet. But since my Tilo is a pyromaniac, I suspect I have surpassed that number already...
Another question - in the smugglers quest the smithy told me to meet him at night on the shore. Today I discovered the shore location and searched it thoroughly during the night, but I haven't found him anywhere... Where exactly should I look for him?

The blacksmith is at the top of the cliff directly when you come from the northern part of the forest. Normally you have to pass it, there's no way you're gonna miss it. He's gonna talk to you and tell you you're being followed. But in fact there is a bug, nobody is following you, so you just have to wait 30 minutes in the game (30 seconds IRL) and talk to him again.

Found him, thank you. My problem was I entered the shore from the harbor and when I finally discovered this upper entrance, it was probably too late into the night for the smithy to appear.

Got the second upgrade. After it, I could sprint and jump like not wearing it at all. Great! Then I changed to another costume and when I changed back to the armor, sprinting and jumping was gone. Maybe a bug?

Yes a bug. Sometimes when you switch your costume you can't recover your stamina and you have to switch again to unlock the stamina
I just finished the game, but somehow I missed one quest, one costume, and one skill. As I like to explore everything I possibly can, I am curious what did I miss where?

- There was no quest left in my quest log, but statistics say 56/57. I suspect it might be something regarding the urns I kept finding, for which there was no purpose...
- A whole missing costume? I got the minstrel, thief, pirate, ranger, king, and guard costumes. Statistics say 6/7.
- Gusto and Fatale taught me all the skills they could, and Rolo taught me trap detection. Yet, there was one slot left... But I do recall receiving one more order for Rolo from the commander that I forgot to collect... could it be it?
How do you get to the harbor? I'm on the quest where I am supposed to finda the whistle for the two mice in the jail cell and get the spyglass back. The mission says I have to go to the harbor but how?
