there is a big buttion saying "update to Galazy 2" as a marketing lie but people still have to click that so its not auto yet

So, I just got an email saying that Galaxy 1.2 won't be updated anymore (well, it wasn't said explicitly, but it was heavily implied). :/

I'm not really fond of the UI changes in Galaxy 2.0, and the new stuff compared to 1.2 is worthless to me, so I guess I'll continue using an outdated version that'll end up breaking some day.

At the moment , Galaxy 2.0 works on Win7 albeit unofficially. So I ad ise regularly backing up GOG Galaxy 2.0 regularly so you can revert to a working version in case something breaks Win7 compatibility. I expect GOG Galaxy to run as long as Chromium Embedded supports Win7. Google has said they support Chrome on Win7/Win Server 2008 at minimum until July 2021, so you've got time to prepare. I also believe GOG 1.2 will continue working for some time until major platform and/or security changes are introduced and implemented.

People say that the GOG tags feature is still not implemented in the 2.0 beta and I use that a lot. I'm not re-tagging my entire library if this is true.

Same here. I won't switch to Win10 until Microsoft has made a lot of changes in favor of personal privacy and security over invasive data mining.

As for GOG... it's one thing for specific games to no longer support Win7 (especially if they're using anything above DX11), but GOG Galaxy?

Now that the GOG Downloader is gone (software that ALWAYS downloaded games MUCH faster than anything Galaxy has EVER done for me), this forced update basically removes most of this site's functionality.

Sure, I could download a billion individual files for large games through the browser, but that'd require me to babysit the downloading process. Maybe if GOG had the option to download the games as one or maybe two files it'd be usable, but as it stands right now, the browser is only viable if downloading a very, very small game.

Sometimes I wish this place had remained "Good Old Games" and stuck with the "only old games here" concept. At least they wouldn't bother with something like Galaxy (who the hell really cares about achievements!?) and even if downloading straight from the browser was required, the file sizes would be small and manageable.

I hope they have a different build they have been keeping secret because the current Galaxy 2 beta has still ways to go. It's still very buggy and crashes every once in a while for me.

Since the Steam update fiasco I started using Playnite and forgot about their interface, steam categories, etc. altogether. In GOG I still use the old categories occasionally and use their interface for the "game extras".

But as pretty as Galaxy 2.0 looks It feels more like a downgrade instead of an upgrade from Galaxy 1 / the website interface. A "different" product but not necessarily an improvement.

I have windroid 10 but I setup a computer specifically for Windows 7 and game to make my life easier. I have Galaxy 2.0 there (even though I don't use it much) and works fine except for the excessive crashing which I think is the same in 10

Just want to add to everyone complaining about the garbage UI. Completely unusable just like Steam’s new one(Thank God for that revert hack).

This is true. I also use the tagging feature to organise my playing order and the absence of it in Galaxy is why I prefer to use Playnite.

Also the lack of rollbacks and the inability to add command line arguments (especially relevant when trying to play a Quake 1 source port through Galaxy) is critical. The likelihood of these being added in 2-3 weeks is ... limited, given that they're not even in the public 2.0 beta.

Valid criticisms regarding the UI aside, Galaxy 2.0 isn't even close to being beta-level feature-complete, let alone release-ready. I was expecting release to be a few years away given the snail's pace of developments.

Ah, how lovely you are. "Eventually" Galaxy 2.0 is still missing features and from how CDPR is reacting (the lack of to be precise) it will stay this way.
However, I give a sh.t about you in every aspect.
